[MBZ] 190e dash vents
that won't close. Which is kinda a problem when it's 20 deg F outside. The levers that are supposed to close them do nothing. Any suggestions for repair without removing the dash? Does anyone have a scan of the parts book that will show me the relevant pieces? As always, thanks in advance. Re: [MBZ] 190e dash vents
Assuming its the same as an '85 Grab the vent itself with a pair of pliers (you might buffer the jaws with a piece of leather or something) and pull straight out which will pull the vent out, then reach in with a wire and close the flapper thats right there behind. With any luck once you're in there you'll see whats wrong. IIRC the lever is attached to the flap by an allen head bolt which may have loosened over time. Re: [MBZ] 190e dash vents
Sheesh ALL your vents are stuck? The side vents should give warm air anyway... I've never had a side one apart but the center segment is held in by a screw thats BEHIND one of the switches which is a super PITA because the switches are ment to come out from behind... I had to destroy the old plate (which was already broken..) to get it out... -Curt Date: Sat, 2 Jan 2010 20:21:20 -0800 From: Jim Arnott j...@wetwesties.org To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Subject: Re: [MBZ] 190e dash vents Message-ID: c2642e4e-87cb-40d3-8e27-fedfd8b05...@wetwesties.org Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed; delsp=yes Good plan. Looks like the center vents just snap in. http://img.eautopartscatalog.com/hires/W01331632931OES.JPG?width=300height=300 Pop 'em out and maybe I can see what's going on. Re: [MBZ] 190e dash vents
Ya, they're all borked. Kaleb is sending a replacement center section. The others don't really matter much this time of year. I pulled the center vents out and got the doors closed so at least there's no 20 deg gale through the car now. Thanks for your help.
