Obvious then, obvious now, and unregulated capitalism (really unbridled

 breed storms.

Markets are just people buying and selling, and they don't filter out
lies, misrepresentation, or fraud, quite the opposite.

Better than a major depression, but the Fed has taken the wrong
approach here. Low interest rates work when the money is used to
build factories and employ people. Since we de-industrialized
starting in the 70's, low interest rates just produce churn in the
stock and bond markets and result in rent seeking, neither of which
does squat for the real economy.

The Fed should have make low interest rate bonds available ONLY for
infrastructure and employment purposes, no investment allowed.

This is the same problem with the dive in rates to fix the
recession in 2001 which was strictly a market panic and should have
been fixed by a couple day cooling off period on the stock exchanges.

A small tax on financial transactions to kill off the 0.001% profit
margin high speed trading would help here as well (I vote for a 2%
excise tax myself) -- 99% of the trading on Wall Street would vanish
and I suspect stock prices would quickly adjust to reflect the actual
value of the companies issuing them instead of what speculators can
pump them up to before they dump them. No mergers and acquisitions
using borrowed money would be a good thing too, same as outlawing the
practice of hedge funds loading up companies with huge amounts of debt
and then killing them for a profit.

Needless to say, I'm only a lone voice howling in the wilderness.

No, no, the Dems are taking credit for Dodd-Frank as the cure-all for G-L-B.

It's Gramm–Leach–Bliley that's all Reagan's fault, despite the fact that
William Jefferson Clinton signed it into law in 1999.

While Dem supporters all seem to be in agreement with the idea that everything
wrong is Bush II's fault after five years of Obama while everything right is
because of Obama, Peter's the only one I know who is so far distanced from
reality that he claims everything wrong under the Obama administration is
because Reagan beat Carter in 1980.

I don't think greed is the problem, exactly. There will always be greedy
people. The problem occurs when that greed that is enabled by government
enforced monopolies and government suppression of potential competition that

No it is not greed in particular, it is just that hospitals (or ERs

Not to say I told you so, but the Reagan Revolution was only a
revolution in the same way the engine rotation is a revolution -- the
whole idea was to undo the banking regulation and tax system that had
protected us from market and banking collapses that happened every
couple years before the 1911 Federal Reserve creation and Anti--Trust
laws.

Obvious then, obvious now, and unregulated capitalism (really
unbridled speculation) breeds depressions and currency collapse like
cold fronts breed storms.

Markets are just people buying and selling, and they don't filter
out lies, misrepresentation, or fraud, quite the opposite.

Nothing new, back when I worked at Boy Scout camp 20 years ago I tripped and
bent one of my fingers way in the wrong direction trying to catch myself. Hand
swelled up so bad I couldn't hide I was hurt, I was trying to be a man about it
after all. ;)

Got somebody to take me to the ER, spent 8 odd hours waiting for an x-ray to
tell me nothing was broken, put a splint on it and wait...

So the girl and Dr. Mom went to the UNC ER last night @ 8:30PM and got back @
6AM after finally getting the alternator laceration stitched up by the 3rd doc
to deal with it.  The first, an intern, was lost, the second, a resident
cleaned it up, and finally a real doc came and stitched it.  9.5 hours.

Cheapchineechit casualty.  Happy graduation evening!

Three hours? - Rich said 9.5 hours.
Sad state is the understatement. $5 can't even buy $tar$ 600-calorie
drink, muchless a few minor stitches, and Larry's 3-time knee
replacement. The sad state is also that there is no hope of return to
sanity for simple care. Tech rules, and rules badly.

[MBZ] Alternator casualty

2013-12-13 Thread Rich Thomas
So in Greensboro today attending daughter's graduation and after we worked on
swapping a new Bosch alternator for the chinee POS the shop put on, which
failed. It was not even necessary, so lost a good Bosch for the POS. So now a
new Bosch which is fine. Drove the car from Gboro blasting along at 80 or so,
no problemos.

Anyway, daughter was helping me as she likes this sort of thing, and was below
to catch the POS as I was letting it down, and sliced a finger good, somehow.
Got back to Chapel Hill with the SIL fam, Dr. mom takes a look, and off they
all go to the ER to get it cleaned up and stitched up.

Nice graduation present courtesy of the jackleg shop and POS alternator. Plus
it was cold out while I was changing the thing.
