you, as many, may have misunderstood the XJ Cherokee; most off-roaders understand that any J**p is simply a platform on which to build the vehicle that best suits their interests and needs. our XJ has surprised many who didn't know what an XJ could do when properly prepared; and it does it with up to 4 passengers and their gear carried in air-conditioned comfort. cheers! e Curt Raymond wrote: The Cherokee holds a little place in my heart as my least favorite 4x4 ever. A stock Cherokee is so unimaginably sucky in the woods it astounds me. I also find them uncomfortable and amazingly unrefined. I have no idea why they are so popular. The Liberty (which is the Cherokee elsewhere in the world) is a close second. With very little feedback to the driver its amazingly easy to get stuck since you have nearly no idea what the wheels are doing. The body panels also have amazing sound transmitting properites which can make you think every stick you drive over is poking holes in the oil pan. Oh and the back seat is apparently plywood covered with nails... This is the old model, I have yet to ride in the new Dodge Nitro (snicker) based model. I also have to mention the Patriot and Compass (which are apparently both based on the (snicker!) Dodge Caliber) what idiot thought Jeep needed a car in its lineup? which one are you talking about? that article addressed several different vehicles and there are pictures of more in the gallery. if you're talking about the Lower Forty, it's a case of Form following Function; almost exactly as it should be for a serious vehicle for the unpaved. if you're talking about the Overland, what's not to like? a rolling campsite that can go most anywhere?! as fr concept vehicles that they really should have done, there's the next-gen Jeepster, as well as the Dakar and the Casablanca,... the Gladiator was just sort of a spin-off of what AEV had been doing for a while already when they were making a Comanche-like spin-off from the XJ, and like the Brute they make now out of the Wrangler. cheers! e Curt Raymond wrote: Yuck, looks, looks like a Rat Fink drawing come to life. There is truth to the rumor. The Jeep Liberty was slated to take the place of the aging Wrangler but Daimler misunderstood the Wrangler's following in this country. When news got out there was almost a revolt amongst Jeep owners and Daimler quickly back pedaled. By then the Liberty was already out on the street and it became the next Jeep model, not the Wrangler and not the Cherokee but something in between. Yuck, looks, looks like a Rat Fink drawing come to life. I'm still not ready to forgive Jeep for not making the Gladiator they'd made a concept of a few years back. Re: [MBZ] Another Chrysler Update
The Cherokee holds a little place in my heart as my least favorite 4x4 ever. Of course if they sold well I suppose they'd be worth it, I'd love to know the real numbers on those. -Curt Date: Tue, 5 May 2009 20:30:57 -0500 From: Tom Hargrave tharg...@hiwaay.net Subject: Re: [MBZ] Another Chrysler Update To: 'Mercedes Discussion List' mercedes@okiebenz.com Message-ID: 016401c9cdea$4e6fa230$3400a...@tomrmkj2yanjy9 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=windows-1250 There is truth to the rumor. [MBZ] Another Chrysler Update
Dear Employees, In my e-mail to you yesterday, I discussed our global strategic alliance with Fiat and our Chapter 11 filing. I am pleased to report that we made progress in our first hearing today in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York, receiving approval for a number of first-day motions relating to the day-to-day running of our business. We are off to a good start. Specifically, we received interim court approval on our request to continue payment of wages, and health and welfare benefits to employees and contractors and continue our customer warranty programs. Today, we also reported April U.S. total sales of 76,682 units, which was a 48 percent decrease versus 2008 but includes a 66 percent reduction in fleet sales as we continue to emphasize retail over fleet. Our retail sales tracked with the industry, which represents a solid performance considering the recent headlines. Highlights included a 7 percent increase in Jeep® Wrangler sales year-over-year, an 11 percent jump in Dodge Challenger sales compared to March, and a 6 percent increase in Chrysler Town Country retail sales compared to last month. As always, we will continue to keep you and all our stakeholders informed of significant developments as we move ahead. To that end, The Scoop employee Web site now has a special Chrysler Restructuring page for all news and information related to the April 30 announcements. It features a variety of materials including Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), the latest press releases and executive communications. The materials will be updated regularly to address any ongoing questions. Throughout our restructuring process, and especially during the upcoming plant shutdown period, employees are encouraged to check the following sources for the latest information: HYPERLINK http://scoop.chrysler.comscoop.chrysler.com, HYPERLINK http://www.chryslerrestructuring.comwww.chryslerrestructuring.com, or the toll-free hotline (877) 271-1568 (United States and Canada) or (503) 597-7708 (international). This has been a challenging period for all involved, but we have established a clear path to the creation of a vibrant new company with significant strategic advantages, laying the foundation for long-term success. Thank you for your continued support.
