2022-05-09 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
Reminds me of a guy I worked with who was a good friend nicknamed “Rip” that
was a Marine officer who served in every major battle in the Pacific theater.
His stories were amazing to hear, and I never tired of them. He lost a lot of
friends and even had a number who were involved in events like the death march
in Bataan and the liberation of the Philippines.

Some years back there was a guy on one of the lists who was a former Marine
that went to Iwo Jima every year and raised flags there. I got one for my
friend, and he was beyond words when he got it. About ten years ago he passed.
We sent flowers to his funeral, and a few weeks later I got a letter from his
daughter saying that he insisted that flag be the one used in his funeral
services.

It’s men like Rip that we owe our freedom to.

I read "Player Piano" by Vonnegut last year, way ahead of his time in
considering the post work world.

It's been nearly 50 years since the US experienced a "real" war and nearing 80
since the world saw one. I wonder if war and the population reduction it causes
isn't a kind of societal stabilizer.

I think we have to start by building some mental hospitals and get the
dangerous crazies, thieves, and drug addicts off the streets. We will need
more prisons for a while also, while we figure out how to attack "the root

I defer to your field experience in dealing with individuals who experience
such internal disorders of thought then act out.
I raise concern because the current human herd seems to have found some
sort of cumulative cognitive dissonance that permeates thought, action, and
core belief, yet gives license to act in violent ways, both by word and
action.
If I were studying in the field of psych and writing a Doctoral Thesis, I
would consider the subject of the shift that is happening between
"individual crazy" to "group crazy" [layman terms] and how that is or has
caused a cultural shift worldwide.

Re: [MBZ] Another one bites the dust

2022-05-08 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
This incident, and others across the nation, beg the question "What brought
this individual to the mindset to learn how to make molotov cocktails,
actually make them, then travel to a police station and attack it, then
attack the responding officers, with the molotov cocktails.
Logical thinking says well grounded humans do not take such a course of
action.
Yet, across the country, similar acts have been done with frequency by
individuals and groups who apparently would have no relationship.
Is there some connection between them all that has not been found? Why not?

[MBZ] Another one bites the dust

2022-05-08 Thread mitch--- via Mercedes

Portland needed to do this two years ago.

Raleigh cops fatally shoot man who threw Molotov cocktails at precinct

Cops in Raleigh, North Carolina, shot and killed a man who was throwing
Molotov cocktails outside the police station Saturday, authorities said.

The incident started around 1:20 p.m. when the unidentified suspect
began lighting cars on fire in the police parking lot with the
incendiary weapons, officials said at a press conference.

“Commands were given to this individual to stop his actions,” Raleigh
Police Chief Estella Patterson said.

“The individual continued to throw multiple Molotov cocktails in the
parking lot and eventually towards our officers who were there.”

I would love to have an SD but I really don't want a hole in the hood.
You would think that at a bare minimum, anyone that did that would put a
longer pipe on it and one of those tilting caps you see on tractors to
at least keep the rain out.
