Last week when I went on a spree at HF to equip my Flagstaff shop with the requisite tools I wanted/needed to maintain my vehicles, I bought one of their random orbit polishers. I’ve got one at the Florida house that has served me well for some years, so I bought the same, possibly nicer/upgraded version. Went to use it yesterday to polish some scratches out of the ML350’s finish. Hit the switch and was greeted with a shower of sparks out of the motor vents, accompanied by a rather nasty burning insulation odor. I wondered if maybe there was some oil or lube that was burning off since it was new, so I continued to use it for a few minutes without any change in it’s behavior. I unplugged it and set it aside. Took it back to HF today. Told the guy that I didn’t pay for the additional “flamethrower” option, to which he chuckled and directed me to pull another off the shelf to replace the one I was returning. Great. Now I have something to look forward to on the 2008 ML550. I figured it would be a real bear to do mounts on just because of the limited space with the larger engine. Re: [MBZ] Harbor Fright Tools
They are Quinn. No case. I’m going to spend a boatload on organizing stuff. The W163 mounts are no easier or quicker on a lift. If you’ve never done a set you wouldn’t know why. You have to get at them from the side, through the wheel wells, not the bottom. -D > On Jun 11, 2022, at 5:09 PM, Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes > wrote: > > Does that Quinn set come with any sort of case? The "Quinn" tools should be (in theory) better than the "Pittsburgh" brand though I have no real complaints about the Pittsburgh stuff either, it's never let me down. I think HF tools are as good as/comparable to Craftsman these days. Maybe not as good as the OG Craftsman. I have shit piles of tools in a disorganized state; but I think I was to just stock in new tools in the new box from the start then sort out the rest of my tools later. I already have a Craftsman roll-around box (top and bottom) that is ready to fill. I split up stuff I had doubles of at the Florida ranch and brought them out here, but it’s pretty hit or miss of what’s here, especially with sockets, ratchets and drivers. [MBZ] Harbor Fright Tools
So I’m in Flagstaff and going through my tools this morning in preparation to make sure I have everything I need to do the motor mounts on the ML350. I realized that I can try to build up my tool collection here in a “hit or miss” approach”, but it’s going to be ugly and probably require a lot of trips to HF. So I’m looking through their coupons for the week and see on for $50 off of a “master technician’s" tool set: https://www.harborfreight.com/master-technician-tool-set-428-pc-58154.html I bought it and some organizer things for my tool box. Not bad for $350. Damned near blew out my back loading the thing in the ML. I’m pleasantly surprised with this as I unpack it and get things organized. The sockets and drivers seem pretty substantial, the plating is solid, and the other goodies included with it are pretty good quality. This will fill a substantial void in my tool collection and make me a lot more confident in taking on work and not worrying if I need to run out and grab a tool I don’t have… -D ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
