I tried that on the SL. Made a little dam from duct tape and squirted
some in there, left a little puddle hoping it would work in there.
Didn't.  Finally drilled it out.

Read their documentation. Kroil “creeps”. At least that’s what they say, and
based on my experience with the stuff, I believe them.

I had that issue with my '84 190D. One of the wheels was actually bent from

was an issue.Guy down the street has a 1" gun for big trucks, it buzzed them

I got the lugs off. After soaking in pb blaster the impact still wouldn’t break
the first wheel loose. Ended up getting a breaker bar, putting a long cheater
pipe on that and bouncing up and down on the end of it, they finally broke
loose. It ended up bending the shaft a little so the head was bit perfectly
straight. The other wheel came loose just fine.

I sheared off the head on the SL (they have a little shaft between the
head the shoulder of the bolt) and had to drill out the bolt where it
seated on the wheel, good thing I had a Drill Doctor to keep sharpening

Mercedes uses a "ball & socket shape " lug nut.
As opposed to what the USA cars use, which is a "Cone shape"
The contact area of the ball & socket lug nut is much greater than a Cone
shape lug nut.

To break loose the ball and socket nut that is overly tight, you need to
stretch the lug bolt to increase the length,, just a little... localized
heat will do that... Shouldn't take a lot, you only need to grow the lug
bolt portion a couple thousands of an inch to release the ball out of hard
contact with the socket...

Re: [MBZ] How to get off way over tight lug bolts

2020-06-29 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
Yes, I did. You don't need to get the lug anywhere close to red hot, just
"heat it up a bit".
Then wait for 3 or 4 minutes for the heat to migrate down the shaft of the
lug and for it to "grow in length".
Then, apply wrench and loosen the lug. If it doesn't release easily, repeat
the heat and try again...
as you add more heat the lug will grow in length a thousands or two, which
is enough to release the clamping force and let the ball turn in the socket
of the wheel.
