No good surface for a suction cup - all either too small or curved. Too many locations to glue steel on to be feasible, and you want to remove weight from an aircraft, not add it. I used a headband light, jsut sit it on the floor pointing up, or get my wife to hold the light. [MBZ] New tool day
So I went to Home Depot today. Came home with a Makita drill and impact driver set. The set I went with has the dreaded hammer drill. Its slightly heavier than the non-hammer variety but still lighter than my old drill. I like the hammer control, I'm unlikely to hit it by accident unlike my last hammer drill. I went with this set because they had a promotion that included a 5ah battery "for free". So for $279 (New Hampshire, no sales tax) I got the drill, impact driver, 2x 4ah batteries (bigger than the other sets) and the 5ah battery. So far I've driven a couple screws with the impact driver. I chose used 3" Philips head screws for this to give it a challenge and I'm impressed. Neither head stripped even when I buried them into the wood and it removed both easily. I'd kind of wondered why people were so into those drivers, now I understand. The other reason, as I mentioned yesterday, is that Makita is owned by Makita, it isn't one of the zombie brands like, well basically all the others... -Curt ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

You twist the handle clockwise-counter clockwise and the socket keeps going in the same direction. You change the direction of the socket the same way you change the direction on any rachet. Once the nut or bolt gets tight, you pull the handle a click at a time the usual way if need be to tighten securely. It might turn out to have limited usage but anything is worth trying that might save running down a nut or bolt a click at a time in a tight place. http://www.amazon.com/Stanley-89-962-8-Inch-Rotator-Ratchet/dp/B000HEKV1W Gerry From: Mitch Haley m...@voyager.net I got one of these from Harbor Freight about 25 years ago, seems like the Stanley is similar but you turn the main handle instead of a little t-handle? http://www.amazon.com/Reversible-Sidewinder-Speed-Wrench/dp/B002FHAIYE ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

After much frustration I pulled a Craftsman apart to find it wasn't... A dab of grease made the ratchet much more pleasant. Thats about what I paid for my (pre-reorg) SK ratchet which is a fine American made tool. I bought it when I finally gave up on Craftsman for making junk. -Curt Date: Mon, 17 Jun 2013 05:21:32 -0400 From: Gerry Archer arche...@embarqmail.com To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Subject: [MBZ] New tool Message-ID: 3DBE388944224B7A9E7DA9425DE9DC1E@PC466116028214 Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset=iso-8859-1; reply-type=original Stanley Rotator (rachet) 3/8 drive. #89-962.Purchased from Walmart $22.47 Rachet continues in same direction when handle is moved back and forth, even one click at a time. When space is limited to swing the handle, this shold double the speed of running a nut up tight. Mechanism seems a little loose. I'll report back if doesn't work as it's supposed to. Gerry Archer wrote: You twist the handle clockwise-counter clockwise and the socket keeps going in the same direction. My Sidewinder seemed really cool when I got it, but I don't recall actually using it. The ratchet on the twist motion is a feature that Stanley has and Sidewinder does not. I think the Sidewinder was about $20, and I bought it in the 1990s. If I were the outdoor power equipment mechanic, I would have had you drive your trailer to a place where I could run an air hose and installed them for free if you'd bought them there. Unless something was seriously wrong, I'd have the blades swapped faster than I could write a work order. Mitch. That's 'cause you're a real man, not one of the bowtie queer little beancounter weenies that run almost all businesses now. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
