Re: [MBZ] OT: Another one on the DNF list

SWMBA was down for the weekend. She reports that most of the planes are
stranded unless they are on a real runway. Too mushy for ski, too soggy and
broken ice for the float planes to get around. Grass tarmac is mire, as the
permafrost is melting and swallows wheels.

Re: [MBZ] OT: Another one on the DNF list

2021-04-27 Thread Clay via Mercedes
They need to get rid of Murkowski. Probably nothing of any impact will come of
things, as AK is a complete mess of politics, where they keep erasing the
actions of the last legislative session, and only fund things one year out.
Big booms and busts, but now they have lost all gains made in the past decade
economically. If you want a VERY stable real estate market with minimal
appreciation, buy in AK. You will be pretty close to underwater most of the
time, until there is a boom, then you can cash out with just enough to break
even.

Same goes with politicians. The residents will undoubtedly vote against their
own interests most of the time. Always getting ballot measures that will
constrict the main source of revenue (oil) coming up on a three year cycle.
Doing it for the “environment”. Like voting to institute a plague and roving
murder gangs so the population will be reduced, allowing for more
disenfranchised to apply for the vacated jobs.

She was picking a fight with the poor worker. She should have just kept her
bluster for her legislative colleagues and voters, worn the diaper for the few
more times she had to attend the gathering. At least she is stuck at home, not
trapped in the capitol. Maybe she can get a flyboy constituent to carry her.

2021-04-26 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
I suspect that’s one of the reasons why they’re so hard core about it. Makes it
easier to enforce and avoid conflicts. Being cabin crew has never been a fun
job. Former coworker of mine was married to a guy who was a career cabin crew
member for Delta, enough tenure that he got dibs on routes and did mostly
international flights. He said even working as a purser on international
flights or in first class sucked.

I presume everyone knows that cabin crews are only paid for the time they're in
the air? So between wheels down and wheels up it’s their time.

2021-04-26 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Note that I am simply reporting on my observations and not taking sides here,
nor should responses to this thread go down that road - or else.

With the flights we’ve taken since the beginning of the year, and even more so
since they put the Federal mandate in place, our experience has been that the
airlines are employing a “zero tolerance” approach to the face mask issue.
We’ve seen on two occasions instances of non-compliance. In one case the
passenger was warned, refused to comply, and then was met by a flight crew
member (first officer) who was very calm and composed in informing the
passenger that he (the first officer) would be in violation of Federal law if
he allowed them to be on the aircraft and not be compliant. They were given the
choice of complying or leaving the aircraft. They chose to stay. Sort of dumb
to make a stink, I think, as it just draws attention to you.

In the other case the passenger refused to comply. Cabin crew asked them to
leave the aircraft and they refused. They reconsidered (too late!) when the
cabin crew returned with a police officer and were escorted off the aircraft.
At that point the die was cast, so to speak.

Enforcement appears to be consistent across the carriers. This was with
American and Southwest. I suspect they’re taking the opportunity to clean house
of “ugly” passengers when the opportunity presents itself.

I believe the term is "Conditions of Carriage”. Buy a ticket and you’ve agreed
to play by the carrier’s rules. Don’t play nice and all bets are off.

Re: [MBZ] OT: Another one on the DNF list

2021-04-26 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
That’s what I found surprising. More aircraft in AK than cars, and when working
up there I dealt with a number of people who commuted by airplane, despite the
often lousy weather.

So why didn’t one of their constituents fly them in/out? No beverage service or
peanuts?

Lots of bush pilots in Alaska who will fly anywhere for a price. No
doubt some will be more than happy to take on a new client.
