Rate of convictions is probably a good predictor of number of
corruption events. In a really bad situation, there may be no
enforecement, which would lower the rate, but I suspect most of these
are state vs county or Feds vs State convictions, so the logic holds.

A candidate for the new state motto?

My wife grew up in Joliet. She agrees about the corruption.

[MBZ] OT: The 10 most corrupt states in the U.S.

2014-07-18 Thread Craig via Mercedes
We had some discussion recently on the best places to live, by other
people's various criteria.

I ran across this today:

http://fortune.com/2014/06/10/most-corrupt-states-in-america/?xid=ob_rss
The 10 most corrupt states in the U.S.

The list is:

1. Mississippi
2. Louisiana
3. Tennessee
4. Illinois
5. Pennsylvania
6. Alabama
7. Alaska
8. South Dakota
9. Kentucky
10. Florida

The last paragraph says,

Of course, it’s not all bad news, as the study also found the
least corrupt states too. Citizens of these states -- Oregon,
Washington, Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa, Vermont, Utah, New
Hampshire, Colorado, and Kansas -- can take solace in the fact
that they’re not getting ripped off as badly as the rest of us.
