How do you know there is no asbestos?

Does Canada have a law forbidding sale of products containing asbestos?

The United States does not. Products containing asbestos are for sale in
home improvement centers today.

I just stripped off that popcorn crap from the ceiling in my laundry
room yesterday.  It scrapes off easily but it is a mess and now I have
to do some skim coating of the old joint compound that was underneath

2020-01-20 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
As my situation was mid-session, I just picked up where we left off the next
day and they got screwed out of a day of training. Too bad, as the latest stuff
for new products and the like was on the last day. We always kept that open for
specialized training unique to the customer or for product updates.

They got a nasty letter from my boss afterwards (I called him the day it
happened and he called the service manager and bitched him out) but I didn’t
mind as it gave me a day off to go up and hike in the mountains. I was there
for the duration anyway, so it was nice to have some “me” time.

I had that happen one time doing training at a predominantly Muslim facility

Re: [MBZ] OT - Network Wiring Day!

2020-01-19 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
It’s only happened to me once, thank goodness.

Fortunately, it was in my garage. I didn’t have any decking on one side of the
folding stairs I had installed. I stepped to one (wrong) side of the stairs
when I was above them with the intent of moving towards the house portion of
the attic without thinking. I went completely through the ceiling with a rafter
ending up under each arm(pit) and my torso and legs dangling.

If adrenaline hadn’t kicked in and had me pull myself up almost immediately, I
suspect it could have been worse. And yes, my arms hurt like the dickens for
several days after. Since it was the garage it was an easy fix.

no.   It was quite interesting in the 70s when the LDS began buying up
parts of Nauvoo. The RLDS already owned many of the historic sites, and
had a visitor's center.  LDS sent individual families to buy up the
places they were interested in, basically undercover.  I don't believe
any of them let on that they belonged to the LDS church.   When they
controlled what they want, they unmasked and built a huge visitors
center.   The RLDS was not happy over this.

When I climbed the tv tower under construction, I think before 80'  up I
could see Nauvoo.   I quit at 160 of 200' because I could see from
Burlington to Keokuk and most points in between.   Probably now 40-50'
would be enough to see the new temple.   When I climbed, there was no
temple.   Apparently there was some friction between my ancestors and
the Brigham young group somewhere between late 1844 and 1846 when a
group came up from the Montrose encampment to expropriate certain property.
