IIRC this was interior paint. Not sure that remediation is required in VA
for exterior lead paint.

I have a friend who does lead remediation and lead inspection, and is
certified to do those things. Some time ago, in discussion with him, he
stated the best way to contain lead paint, if it is still bonded to the
underlying surface was to simply paint over it with latex paint, which
seals the lead paint from human contact.
His comments were that all removal methods left uncontained particles that
were the right size to be ingested by humans, after the removal, and it was
impossible to %100 contain those particles and dispose of them safely.
I found that approach interesting, but likely practical, considering he had

My off the cuff assumption is less effect than running potable alkaline

You know how you can tell if you have lead-based paint?
It sticks well, and lasts a very long time. There's a reason
they used lead, and it wasn't that they were rotten bastards,
or cheap ones.

Get the kit.

Lead isn't plutonium. Just don't eat it, don't let _children_ eat
it, and don't breathe it. That latter is where you have to be a
bit careful. I think a pressure washer would be a good way to
remove it, but you'd want some containment to keep it from
going everywhere.

Another good way to remove it is with a heat gun and a putty
knife. Soften it and scrape off the goo. Don't start any fires.

Yep. I got one of those round scrubbers a few years ago. Love the
way it works. Much quicker on large flat surfaces then either the
regular nozzles or those turbo things that pulse in a small
circle. That does work better though on engines as it seems to
hit at a few different angles as you go.

Looks like most of the consumer grade models are clustered around the $50-$75

Ahhh... I'll address your question more specifically now.

For best effect, using only cold water, [Or hot water, for that matter]
I've found the nozzle that has an oscillation spray pattern to have the
greatest effect.

The pulsation of that nozzle arrangement seems to have more "get it done"
than straight spray versions and each of mine have a selection of 5
nozzles with various spray pattern and fan width. You can find replacement
nozzles on line, BTW... surprising how cheap.

I may not have been clear enough in my request, but thanks for your
observations….

I have 7.5 HP/4500 psi Sears pressure washer that does pretty much everything I
ask of it. I was just asking about the surface cleaner attachments, as I don’t
have one myself but have borrowed one and was very impressed with the
efficiency and time savings it provided for large areas (driveway, sidewalks,
etc.)

Your comments bring back a lot of memories of starting out in the “business”
and being charged with having to clean the incoming equipment before it was
worked on by using a Steam Jenny. Amazingly effective at removing just about
anything, including paint, but messy, hot and wet work. Trashed many a piece

Re: [MBZ] OT - Pressure Washer Surface Cleaners

2018-05-06 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
I have 3.
One is 6.5 hp Honda engine driven, 3000 psi from nozzle.
One is 8 hp Honda engine, 4,500 psi from nozzle.
One is 12 hp [Honda engine again], with diesel powered heat to make steam.
4,500 psi.
Bigger engines drive bigger pumps, for more water volume. as a basic rule.

The steam cleaner is nothing short of "whip ass" when it comes to cleaning.
A feature which you pay pretty dearly for, cost wise to own. I have used it
to remove failed clear coat on paint, for example... touchy... don't expect
a "Martha" result.

Much of what I do involves "electrical remote areas" [off grid Ranch] so
the engine power works best for that...

Wonderful to have every time I use them... makes mechanical work on
machines so much nicer to "blast them off" ahead of time... Use care where
you "blast".. you should be good.

[MBZ] OT - Pressure Washer Surface Cleaners

Anyone own something like this?

https://www.pressurewashersdirect.com/power/15-inch-surface-cleaners.html

I borrowed one from a buddy to clean my driveway and sidewalks, a semi-annual
exercise in Florida, and was amazed at how quick and easy it made the job
compared to just using a fan nozzle.

Looks like most of the consumer grade models are clustered around the $50-$75
range. Just wondered if anyone owned one of these and what their opinion was
of it.

Thanks!

2015-04-10 Thread Greg Fiorentino
Thanks for sharing your experiences on this!

I heeded some advice and purchased a Karcher electric (from Amazon Warehouse
Deals) It was advertised as repackaged, very good. I feel safe buying from
them, knowing I can return it without hassle if it is not satisfactory. It
arrived without a manual, but otherwise in perfect condition. The manual is
downloadable as a PDF, so no problem there. I saved $30 off their regular
$200 price, so heckuva deal. Used it today on the deck, works as expected.
Adequate for my needs and compact.

Subject: [MBZ] OT: Pressure Washer Recommendations?

I need a new pressure washer for vehicles, decks, outdoor furniture, and the
driveway. It does not need to be able to remove paint. I was thinking of
the Sun Joe SPX3000 which can be had for less than $200 from Amazon. The
reviews are generally good, but there are quite a few negative ones. I
would prefer not to have to deal with a gasoline powered unit and of course
want to spend as little as possible. Any experiences you can share?

TIA,

Greg

Re: [MBZ] OT: Pressure Washer Recommendations?

2015-04-01 Thread Jim Cathey

The 2HP (??) one I first had worked just fine, plenty of pressure,
but not much volume and thus not much cleaning power. It seemed
fine until you actually had to do a big job, then it felt like you
were scrubbin the kitchen floor with a toothbrush. I gave it away,
and bought a 10HP Honda/Reverbii unit that has been eminently
satisfactory. No more pressure, but lots more volume. Hits harder,
and cleans a wider swath.

Bigger is better so long as you keep your hands and other body parts out
of the spray pattern.
You can generally avoid damage to things like wood by choosing to use a
wider spray nozzle but if you want to clean really greasy dirty things
then you need power to blast it off.

A rotating nozzle helps too.

MTM is a good brand with parts availability.

Last one I bought (lectric) was a blue one campbell housefeld. if you
ran ot more than 5 min, the plastic around the brush holders melt and
it is junk.

My first one is a karcher, and was through a fire. I sawed off the

is not pretty, but it runs.

Karcher is kinda the 240D of lectric washers.

I know you asked about electric, but I have a Sears/Craftsman 6.5HP with a
Briggs engine on it. I've had it for at least ten years, and being in Florida
it gets a regular workout. I just pressure washed my driveway last weekend, as
a matter of fact.

Starts on the first pull, runs great, does something like 3500 PSI, I believe.

I bought it on a close out sale, I think. I junky it was heavily discounted at
the time. I think I paid around $300 for it.

The electrojuicity is well insulated and on a GFI. If you stuck a
finger into the fan, it might give you a sore finger, but I don't do
things like that. all that was cut off was the remains of the plastic
handle.

However, if Y'all would like to donate money to a fund to buy me a new
