Re: [MBZ] OT Small home generators

2008-11-09 Thread harry watkins

Mike

Thanks for the input, sounds like what I'm looking for. Can you provide
some more info, where, what and how much. Starts easy, hard ?

Harry

I have one of the four stroke 2000w models and I love it. It runs the sump
pump and lights very well if the power goes out. It will start the fridge
sometimes but it doesn't like it. Power is not very clean or steady. I
wouldn't suggest one for running a pc as it makes terrible interference
when i tried to run the tv. Works great for power tools too. Weighs maybe
fifty pounds. Runs for FIVE hours on one gallon of gas.

Mike

Anyone have experience with these small units? I see them for ~$150, 2000
watt, both 2 and 4 stroke.

I have a 4500 watt that handles the fridge, TV and lights. That's all I
really need down here in the south.

However, I would like to have a back up for the back up that would be
small enough to haul around by hand and use away from the house.

Thanks
Harry

Harry,
I have no idea on the make..it looks like a honda engine clone. I bought
mine at Grossman's bargain outlet on clearance for $138 with tax and all. It
has really been a lifesaver, i can carry it anywhere, it is extremely quiet and
starts easily. Set the choke and give it a couple pulls is all it takes. Only
complaint i have is that for whatever reason, it wants to be on level ground or
setting with the petcock downhill to run right.

Thanks Mike, it sounds like one I've seen in a magazine for $150, I thought
it was a Honda at first. I'll do some web searches.

Re: [MBZ] OT Small home generators

2008-11-08 Thread Mitch Haley

I got one for a friend at Meijer supermarket last spring. Regularly $150, paid
$90. Two stroke, runs on premix, Rated 1000W instantaneous, 850 continuous.
Harder to start than I expected. Weighs 40-45lb, if you just pull the starter
rope you yank it right off the ground, so you have to hold it down like a chain
saw. Reasonably quiet, but you're limited in what you can do with it. It could
run a refrigerator, but I bet it can't start one. Anything larger than this you
should definitely go for a 4 stroke.

Mitch.
