Unreplace the replaced items and try again. It looks like the Fuses or
EZL connectors (I don't know what an EZL is) is/are probably it, since
that is what started the car. Even with bad fuel filters it was running
a bit before, so it was getting some fuel, right?
Or just leave it alone.

Thanks for weighing in, Peter. That’s pretty much what it does. Cranks,
fires, then dies as soon as you let go of the key.
I’ll post in the morning with the results.

Nope. Fresh fuel from a trusted Tier 1 supplier. And the tank was down to
roughly 1/4 full.

True, except that the CPS isn’t looked at until the key is released with the
expectation that there is a signal to the EZL from it so the EZL can take over
spark and timing. During cranking there is a fixed signal for spark and timing,
essentially bypassing the EZL until cranking is done.

Unless I'm wrong, the CPS on these things is behind _all_
spark timing. There are no points, etc. So if it's completely
dead there won't even be a cough, much less any running at all.

Yeah I was thinking that as well. I feel like we had a vehicle that had one go
bad but I can't remember any more about it.

I heard them running when the car is sitting and the ignition is on, although I
couldn’t tell if both were running or just one, of course.
If the fuel pump(s) were bad, would it still have enough pressure to start?
The fuel pump relay on this car isn’t too bad as far as cost from what I see.
I
Check to see if the fuel pump(s) run when you flip the key on, and
also run when it is cranking.
If not, the relay is bad, sadly it's the monster electronic one on
that car, I believe.

Look at the fuel pump(s) and it's relay if there's more than one fuel
pump, then check power to them.

Unfortunately, the 1995 and earlier models had analog diagnostics, so the only

something.
I don’t think the battery is the culprit, as the car was running down the road

I'll check my records.
So, hook another battery via jumper cables to it and see if it keeps
running?

COmpression, fuel and ignition. I doubt compression has changed
unless someone sugared his gas tank. I have no idea how you check
ignition on these COP gassers. That leaves fuel ( and battery.)
