The camera has motion detection mode, so it can be set to turn on any time
it detects motion, and the threshold for the trigger is variable.
I do not think power consumption is low enough to keep the ccd or whatever
detector on continuously.

Everyone told me soldering wires in a car was sacrilege!
I have always soldered everything. You just want to
make sure that vibration isn't flexing the joint.
All of those wonderful large connectors in MB from

You could run a new wire alongside the dome light wire, but honestly it

Yea, Yea. These have joint restraint built in, so the soldered joint
doesn't flex. I solder almost every joint. Never had a break in/at the
joint since I got my first Weller soldering gun in 1964.

One 124 cars, there is a nice big power bus in the driver's footwell,
direct connect to the battery.
IIRC, on the 126 there's a power nexus under the 'dead' pedal.
Switched and unswitched. The power available at the vanity
lights is unswitched, not sure there's any other variety already

How much power does it need? There should be a continuous power source in
the "opera" light.
One 124 cars, there is a nice big power bus in the driver's footwell,
