2016-05-09 Thread Curly McLain via Mercedes
The problem I have with crimp joints is when moisture gets in. You
have dissimilar metals, galvanic corrosion, oxidation etc. And in
the worst cases, little cups that hold water to increase the
oxidation, corrosion etc. In the climates I have lived in moisture
always gets in.

Oh man, might as well open the oil debate, at least we've been
through that one enough everybody knows the words if you hum the
tune.
I'd suggest if you make a good Western Union joint soldering is as
good as anything.on the other handIf you've got a good proper crimp
tool and not one of them crap things they see at the autoparts store
a good crimp joint is forever.
Of course most of the automotive yahoos can't find their butt with
both hands...

The camera has motion detection mode, so it can be set to turn on any time
it detects motion, and the threshold for the trigger is variable.

I do not think power consumption is low enough to keep the ccd or whatever

One beautiful thing about the camera is that it automagically starts
recording when power is supplied to the unit, and ends the clip when power
is cut. So you really want a power source that is ignition switched.

You could run a new wire alongside the dome light wire, but honestly it
takes about 30 min to just push the wire into various cracks around the
windshield. Look it up on youtube for whatever car you have or a comparable
model of the same body style. There are how to vids on everything.

How much power does it need? There should be a continuous power source in
the "opera" light.

One 124 cars, there is a nice big power bus in the driver's footwell,
direct connect to the battery. I've used that to install a float charger.
I'll bet a 126 car has similar somewhere under the dash. You'd have to
run

the power wire across the top of the windshield, down the A-pillar, then
squeeze it between dash and body to get under the dash, or feed through
the

speaker hole (if that is in the corner like a 124 car).

I'll bet a 126 car has similar somewhere under the dash. You'd have to run
the power wire across the top of the windshield, down the A-pillar, then
squeeze it between dash and body to get under the dash, or feed through the
speaker hole (if that is in the corner like a 124 car).

The cigarette lighter cord included is about nine feet long. If you stick
it behind your rear view mirror, just take a trim spatula or similar and
jam the wire into the crack in the windshield trim, take it around the edge
and down the pillar, then down the edge of the dash. From there you have to
get a bit inventive, either find a crack in the dash or take it down to the
footwell and behind the kick panel then across to the lighter.

If you need your lighter jack, then buy the direct wiring kit and splice it
to an appropriate switched power source under the dash. The wireless kit is
also available on amazon and I think it pops up at the screen bottom as
"customers also bought" etc. Items

Yes, that is exactly it.. Plus, I got the first 3 items that are in the
"popup list" below that listing.. 32GB card, mirror mount, and Hard Wire
Harness.

The cam comes with a window suction cup mount, which works.. but the mirror
mount removes window clutter nicely and puts the cam up out of the way
more.. also, makes it less obvious.

Lately, I've started leaving it in run mode when parked in parking lots,
just to capture anything that may happen around the car while I'm
shopping.. Think I'll get another one for the back window.. hmm.

Next step is to slave it to a remote mount hard drive.. just cause..

I just got one of those in the UPS on Friday, have not opened it up yet,
it was on special a week or so ago for $40some? I'll check the model,
but it was whatever got good reviews in some survey I saw a coupla weeks
ago, then there was a price drop on Amazon for a day.

Mine is a "Black Box G1W-C Capacitor..."

with apparently a capacitor instead of battery. I have a "manual" for
it some guy wrote I can send to you, someone posted it in one of the

After driving in the city a lot recently, decided I needed one for the
"city car".. camera has 140 degree view and adjustable focus that is good
enough to read license plates if you want.. certainly can read the
stoplight condition. records to SD card, 32 bit, that gives 14 hrs record
time, then loops to record over..
Camera records at 1080, so will play on computer screen or TV ..

It's made by "Black Box G1W-CB model" ... with all the attachments, about
$90 .. seems like good insurance for an incident like happened to Wilton..
ie "Officer, the light was green, I had the light".. case closed.. watch
the video..
Amazon shipped it in 2 days.. No shipping charges.
