Yeah, the case on mine is pretty beat up. I had take the cover off a couple of
years ago and make some adjustments so the front and back covers didn’t push in.
Still keeps charging, though. Definitely got our money’s worth out of this one.

I just keep fixing the cords on the old Schauer chargers. They keep
working. The 2A got run over by a tractor. I straightened the case
and it has run another 20-30 years since. They are the 240D of
chargers, so long as they are "dumb" chargers.

I much prefer the low amp/slow juicing, but with the diesels I sometimes need

I have Pops’ older wheeled Craftsman Charger which has resurrected many totally
dead bat-trees. I love it! I also have a couple “dumb” chargers for RC car
bat-Trees.

I have a cheapo harbor freight, has 2/10/50 amp settings, does just fine for
recharging a low battery. Chicago Electric, has a little needle / meter to
indicate the amp flow and rough state of charge.
I also bought a $10 Amazon-chinee maintainer type, which has a de-sulfinator
feature, that I
+1 Look for old chargers at auctions/garage sales. You want one with
no electronics at all. A 6/12V switch is ok. 6/8/10 amp. I have an
old Schauer 2 A charger (6/12) that I love. Yes, it takes a day or two
for a flat battery, but for all but emergency use, that is ok. I use
My neighbor has a smart charger.
About once a year I take a dumb charger over there to jump start his smart
charger.
It's too smart to want to charge a dead battery.
The old fashioned Shumacher on wheels is on sale for $130 at Advance Auto, but
they don't let you use internet coupons on sale
You need a dumb charger, I can't remember the brand that I have, I bought it
around 2003 or so, it'll shove electrons out no matter what, if theres a lot of
resistance those electrons won't go anywhere but its at least trying to put
them out...
I'm curious why you tried 2a though, after 3
TIme for power upgrades.
I tried to drive Allen yesterday morning and found her dead as a rock. I
figured I could give her a jump with Polei, being diesel to diesel, but all I
got after five minutes of electrons flowing over what now seems to be overly
fine wire gauge (maybe I need to invest
