Yeah, the case on mine is pretty beat up. I had take the cover off a couple of
years ago and make some adjustments so the front and back covers didn’t push in.

Still keeps charging, though. Definitely got our money’s worth out of this one.

I also have a Schauer I inherited from my Dad, though it's a 6 A model.

I haven't needed to use it too much because my BatteryMINDer 12248 and
1510 will start charging a battery even if its voltage is fairly low.

I currently have the 12248, which starts charging at 2, 4, or 8 A
depending upon how it set it and then tapers to a maintaining/desulfating
charge, on our Kenworth, which has four Group 31 950 CCA, 81 AH batteries.

I would use the 1510 to maintain the battery on a third vehicle, which we
currently do not have ...

If a car is going to sit in my drive for longer than a week or so, I disconnect

+1 Look for old chargers at auctions/garage sales. You want one with
no electronics at all. A 6/12V switch is ok. 6/8/10 amp. I have an
old Schauer 2 A charger (6/12) that I love. Yes, it takes a day or two
for a flat battery, but for all but emergency use, that is ok. I use
higher amp ones for emergency charging. Too many amps can damage the
battery.

I have a HF, electronic gizmo, and had to use it last week. It took a
while to get the nanny to realize the battery needed a charge, but after
a few tries, it worked.
