I've occasionally seen a Fram filter cartridge or some such at the Autozone, it appears to be just a bare pleated filter element; it didn't have the separate bypass filter section. I always use an OEM such as a Mahle or Hengst from Rusty. They are handy items to pad on an order if you're close

In general, yes, they are not of the quality of what Mr. Q sells. often not fitting right, no bypass, or 100% bypass. Wix makes filters that are generally good, but the MB Wix filters make me real nervous. In an emergency I will use a Wix, but Mr.Q's filters are better and generally cheaper.
