Won’t be the last hole I’ll cut in a roof. If it’s done carefully and
correctly, leaks should be the last thing to worry about.
I’ve cut holes in a number of roofs for skylights, exhaust stacks, fans, etc.
Never had a leak to this day.

Yes. I just finished stripping about 400 sf of roof to put down a double
layer of ice and snow block to cure a stubborn series of leaks over a
shallow cricket. IMO. CFLs and LEDs just don't cost that much to run.
Besides, a little waste heat is a bonus half of the year.
