Sounds like issues that can be managed by staying on top of maintenance. For example not stretching oil change intervals, maybe even shortening them. Most owners are really bad at this. It's part of the reason modern cars now have nannies that tell you the oil level is low, it's time to change

Since the Duramax is down getting injectors replaced, I took the GL up to Kansas City to pickup my new 2 post lift.  The trailer weighs approx 2k lbs and the lift is about 1500.  Towing up empty with 2k and back with 3500 or so, it averaged about 16.5mpg.  This was mostly at around 70mph.  The
