I can imagine "worst case" is a total failure of all the components of the ABS,
it all needs to be replaced, the cost of which probably exceeds the asking
price of the car.

miles the ABS pumps can fail, but even that’s pretty rare. Hard to say if it’s
significant without putting the DAS to it and reading the codes. Could be
