Curt, I think they are, EPC listed several 201 models that use the same switch.

Many of the people with used switches on eBay want $50 for them.

2015-08-01 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
Jim, that's a great idea, maybe Craig can try cleaning his switch up. I've
recovered many MB switches using De-Ox-It.

My 124 switch was a crimp-sealed unit, I considered opening it up to see if
it was repairable, but $10 and a few minutes at a junkyard was the best
time/money saver for me.

Switches rarely go bad, I think used is the best value.

_Second_-best value. Best value is a shot of Deoxit right
in the gizzard, that works. (A shot that doesn't work is
no value at all.)

Still, removing all those screws is a giant PITA, I'd always
opt for the cleaner first. (Later cars use a connector on
the back of the switch.) Especially since the switch is
always 'hot', so you really need to disconnect the battery,
with all the attendant pleasantness that goes with that.

I think I paid $10 at a junkyard. The EPC can tell you all the models that
use the same switch.

I had the headlight switch in my '95 124 sedan get wonky; one night it was
very stiff. It did turn on, but the detente feel was never right after
that, so I found a junkyard replacement. I wouldn't trust an aftermarket
switch, and OE from the dealer is a bit rich.

EPC says same switch (000 545 37 04) was used in 114, 115, 116, some 126, & 201
cars, as well as 123 series.

[MBZ] Flakey W123 Headlight Switch

2015-07-31 Thread Craig via Mercedes
I went to drive down to Albuquerque recently before sunrise and found the
instrument cluster lights came on in the running light position of the
light switch of our '82 240D/3.0, but when I switched to the headlight
position, the instrument cluster lights went off. I fiddled with the
switch but could not make them both come on simultaneously. It was either
the instrument cluster lights or the headlights. I chose headlights. :-)

Has anyone worked with these switches? Is it possible to get it working
properly again, or do I need to look for a new one? With Dan mentioning
Rock Auto yesterday, I looked there, but they offer no headlight switch.
I have not loosed elsewhere.

Thanks,

Craig
