The points that came with the distributor are different than the original. What do you mean by wire tail. The original points had a black and white striped wire, the new ones do not. I visually inspected and gapped the points, the new ones, and they do open, but they are different from the

Jim: The Pertronix system will be much better than the original, but if you want to install the points, the black wire goes to the same place as the green one. It will serve as the trigger for the transistor switchbox to ground the coil. If you only have 6V to the coil, you have a wiring

Greetings, I just installed a rebuilt distributor into my 1973 4.5L and I have a couple of issues. There is a black wire that the points hooks to, that I'm not sure where to hook up, the old one had a green wire that ran down to a transistor mounted near the radiator. I think I might have a

There is a black wire that the points hooks to, that I'm not sure where to hook up, the old one had a green wire that ran down to a transistor mounted near the radiator. What about the extra set of points for the FI system? Coils only get around 6V normally due to the ballast resistor. These

So the 6V is ok? I recently measured 13V, maybe that was when it was running or to a body ground. The FI trigger points are installed, the old ones from the other distributor. I'm not getting any spark when I turn over the motor. On 11/22/05, Jim Cathey [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: There is a

So the 6V is ok? I recently measured 13V, maybe that was when Something less than 12V at the coil is OK, but I'm not sure what the exact number should be. 6V or more for sure I'd think. I'm not getting any spark when I turn over the motor. And that's obviously bad. -- Jim
