Re: [MBZ] 124 leaks when rains
you could buy a tube of the peelable weatherstripping caulk, and seal up the sunroof with that before spending the $117 plus freight. If the leak stops after sealing the sunroof, then you can decide to sunroof or treat it as a Wilton roof. EPC research indicate three different possible part numbers: 124 780 00 98 is "sunroof seal" for ~$117. 124 782 04 98 is "sunroof weatherstrip front" for ~$9 and 124 682 00 97 is "sunroof weatherstrip rear" for ~$13. I'm tempted to order all three. The seal installed in my car is in two parts, a front and a rear. Yesterday after the water test, as I drove the car more and more water appeared on the floor, so it was continuing to flow out from some body cavity. I am going to perform a new test and include a drive around after wetting each area (windshield drains, doors, and then roof). - Max Charleston SC On Sat, May 2, 2015 at 6:01 PM, Max Dillon wrote: Parking the car pointed uphill will eliminate or greatly reduce the water incursion. Sounds like it needs gleitpaste, the special MB lube, which I believe is a high moly content grease for the sunroof glides. (or the cable may be messed up) You can buy a sunroof cable. Rusty used to pack gleitpaste in small tins, like for perc caps. for a reasonable price. MB only sells it by the liter or kilo or some such thing.I think you could find a Molykote product that will workas well. Craig, I may try that next. Currently the sunroof has a nasty habit of only opening a couple of inches and then stopping. If I manually crank it closed a bit, then the motor will start working again an close it up, however the special socket for manual operation of the sunroof is messed up, so I have to try to put a 1/4 wrench right on the shaft, which is not too easy to rotate once the wrench is in place. The other potential leak point would be the windshield corner drain, that goes down between fender and firewall at the corner behind the battery. I've never heard of a leak developing there, but if I try the hose test, I'll start low on the car and work my way up. Re: [MBZ] 124 leaks when rains
I've had the carpets out of my '87 wagon for a couple weeks now in order to locate the water entry point. Last night we had good rain, and this morning there was plenty of water sloshing around on the passenger floor boards. I've previously checked the battery area, looked under the battery tray, and found nothing. No rust around the windshield. I'm going to check the sunroof drains next. Any other ideas? This car also occasionally gets water entry at the rear, soaking the compartment that holds the seat cushion for the third row seats (the very back floor compartment). There is evidence of shoddy repair work to collision damage at the right rear corner, so I suspect the hatch seal is no longer doing its thing because either the body or the hatch dimensions are wrong. -- - Max Charleston SC sunroof drains or leaking windshield are all I can think of other than rust though in one of those areas. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
