Personally, I've started looking to the BBC and Canadian news systems a bit more, nice to see a perspective from outside the guilded cage of American journalism, with it's money and party bound integrity... Rather than Chrome, get Iron from SRWare - it's had the Google spyware stripped out of the Chrome source code, then re-compiled. Adblock+, noscript, and you should be good. Although I prefer dillo for all but the most intensive browsing, it's fast, if a bit spartan, and it doesn't eat memory like a pig.
