Averages in Jan are about 68 to 42 or so. That said it could go
down to the mid 20's at night or stay at around 50. It all
depends on the jet stream and what blows down from the north. A
normal seeping bag should be just fine. If not then a blanket
over it will do the job.

In Manfred’s neck of the woods it could easily get into the 30s at night in

Hmmm.

BMW motorsickle rally not far from Hawthorne/Gainesville FL the weekend
of Jan 14.

http://www.bmwmoa.org/events/EventDetails.aspx?id=856821

Could be fun to go there before/after the MiniQ.

Any of you SE listers interested in BMWs too? (I only like the 2 wheel
variety without electronics)

The 4 wheel variety are like high cost, high maintenance women.

Yellowknife. Summer. Clouds of blackflies so thick you couldn’t see. Gosh
awful nasty things that get in your mouth, ears, everywhere.

Makes one appreciate winter.

summer, and we had them til October.

Mosquitos are a pest -- screens turn black at night when they try to

The blood tricking out of the bite (they slice off a bit of skin and

That's what I used to think but when the same plane makes north
south passes at about 1000' and about a mile apart east to west
that takes about 1/2 hr to come back from the north and about an
hour from the south it makes you wonder. I'm thinking that they
do the closer images with the plane and the higher altitude ones
from the sat. I'm on a dial up line so the time it takes to
download the images is noticeable. When you get down to about
1000' another set of images is loaded that replaces the larger
area ones that were loaded for the higher altitude view. I've
seen the flight pattern from a similar looking 2 engine plane
twice now about 3-5 years apart and noticed the different closeup
views about a week after. Of course the larger area pictures
change at the same time so it could still be all sat images. Or
maybe it's the MIB keeping an eye on us.
Of course being German I'm probably just being paranoid to be
thinking that so I like the Google picture taking theory better. :-)

I've done two.

Clean the compressor very well, the last thing you want is grit in the
seals.

Not a bad job.

Compressor has to come out, so replace all the o-rings including the
four under the top plate.

The new seal will leak a little until it runs in completely, but I've
never had an issue with them after that.

Thanks, Rick and Peter.

Just got done watching Bob?s videos on resealing. Looks pretty straightforward
and not difficult at all. I ordered a resealing kit with the shaft protector
on eBay for about $23 just now, so I?ll probably take this on next week.

Any reason why one couldn?t use compressor oil rather than mineral oil for
reassembly?

Also, I assume there are charts somewhere that will give the amount of oil to
fill the compressor with before reinstalling it? I?ll do some Googling?.

Re: [MBZ] Fl MiniQ

2016-12-01 Thread MG via Mercedes
Nope, trees all around, that's why you would need to be above 100
by the end. An amusing story, I invited a friend over one time.
He flies an ultralight just like I do, from a long paved runway
at a local airplane community. He flew over along the runway and
left, didn't land. When I called him to ask why he told me that
my runway was to narrow (90') and short. For an ultralight?
Really? It all depends on what you are comfortable with. With
your plane I would probably be uncomfortable. With mine I'm in
the air at 200 and at better then 300 by the end of the runway.
That's good enough for me to turn around and have a good chance
at getting down. I probably should try that when I get back to
flying.

As for the trees, yep it's been a while since I've used it. Told
myself I wouldn't fly till I got the dome done. It's taken a bit
longer then I thought it would. Slight understatement there. I
could have the trees out and ready to go in a week. Just give me
the word.

The Dome is right there to the west of the runway nearer to the
north end then the south. If the picture you see has some long
poles sitting near it on the edge of the runway laying E-W then
look real close at the E end of the poles and you can see a
shadow of me standing there. Those are the poles that are now
holding up the roof of the solar support structure.

I only need 800 feet, if the ends are clear (no trees, power
lines, etc.).

It's not an official runway anymore. The airplane(s) must have moved on
years ago. The dome house is why I thought it was Manfred's place.

for now we are debating a date. Jan 7 and 21 are in the mix, and if I
disappoint #1 daughter and #1 soon to be son in law, the Jan 14 is in
there also. Max needs a weekend, but social Director may have other
plan for him. If Max gets a thumbs down, then any date in there can
work for most of us. What works for you?

Hmmm - after I install the new alternator belt I'll find out how far to
100' AGL. I know that I can get off the ground in 800', but haven't tried
to find the 100' AGL distance.

focus on cars & get food at a restaurant. Then later you can move into
