That's probably what happened to mine. I have had it a while but don't use it
that much and the battery will not hold a charge long enough to screw in a
couple of screws. I always just left the battery on the charger all the time
till I needed it.

I have the little brother - the 12v Bosch drill - and love it so much that
I got a second one so I don't have to run between the hangar and the
garage, it was always in the other building from where I was working. I
think the second one was on "sale" at Lowes for $99 at the time. It has two
speeds - fast for drilling, slow for driving big, long screws.
There are other brands that look identical, but the batteries don't
interchange.

We have a Dewalt at work and its really nice. When the battery in my Craftsman
19v finally dies I'll probably go with one of those. That said the second
battery started dying 2 or 3 years ago probably from lack of use but the "good"
one is still fine. I've had the thing nearly 10 years, nothing to complain
about other than the ni-cad batteries are heavy.

I just recently got a used Porter Cable with a lithium batter.
Finally, a cordless drill that is worth it.

When I was using a drill/driver almost daily, the NiCd battery
worked out just fine. But in the last decade or so I might have
use for one a couple times every couple months. The NiCd is
useless in this situation because if I leave the battery on the
charger, it kills it. If I don't the battery is flat when I want
to use it.

The lithium can sit for weeks - or maybe months - without
significant self discharge. So it's actually usable when I want
to use it!

I still use my Yankee screwdriver more.

The same shutters have been used now for about 16 winters and really
show no deterioration. It is 7/16" rather than just 3/8" but I doubt
that makes much difference.
They have a coat of white paint on the exterior side. Might only be
primer. My mother painted them so I really don't know what she used.
Winters are cold here but not all that wet so that likely helps. They
might face a bit of rain spring and fall but probably not all that much.

They sit out all summer too but under the carport so not exposed to rain.

cost to purchase the needed electrics, and that exceeded the cost of this

The Sears cordless drill lasted about 10 years, and at 16 years one of the
battery packs still will hold enough juice to get a few small things done.
I was tempted to either rebuild the battery packs or replace the battery
packs, but when I looked at the cost, this HF deal was a no-brainer.
$26.40 plus tax for HF drill with two battery packs and a charger. I'm
going to see if I can fit this into the Sears drill plastic case, and then
probably chuck all that out.

I don't buy a cheap cordless drill expecting it to last 10 years with little to

so I buy a cheap 120v drill and expect it to last a lifetime.

Let us know, I've got an older 19v Craftsman with a dead battery. I hate to buy
another battery for an old drill so I'm considering a whole new drill. I do
have one working battery so I guess I'll keep it as long as that lasts.
