Actually, thinking about it a bit more, it'd depend on which engine. I *think* that late a car could still come with the W8 engine which I suspect is really shoehorned into the car. Its not long (W8 remember) but its fat. Google tells me 2006 is a B6 (6th generation). I know nothing about those

I doubt that one, I've never worked on a Passat but headlights on my '98 Jetta and Angie's 2005 Golf aren't that bad. The driver's side of the Golf is a challenge because its tight up against the battery but I've done it. Haven't had to change the bulbs on the 2015 Jetta yet. -Curt On
