A, the reality of economics. Something sadly missing in the world of politics when it comes to.. well, everything! Unfortunately, knowledge of economics seems to never be taught in our public schools.Of course it's not a sexy subject so students are hard to engage. But it's kind of like gravity - always there in the background working there's nothing you can do to stop it LarryT On 4/29/2015 12:32 PM, Andrew Strasfogel via Mercedes wrote: Becuase it's expensive! Re: [MBZ] Synthetic Diesel!
Being a capitalist by nature I feel the need to ask the question, what is my rate of return on expenditure to make that one gallon of blue diesel fuel. Just looking at the schematic of the system, I see expensive equipment setting idle waiting for the sun to shine or wind to blow, the land it sets on, buildings to house it, people costs to run, adjust, and maintain it. Then, a very low product flow. Is it economically feasible, when scaled up to commercial volume is yet another question unanswered, without large expenditure of capital. Wonderful idea perhaps, but reality wins... I can drill and develop an entire oil field for what the experiment with this would cost me and the oil will sell on delivery. Fail... Re: [MBZ] Synthetic Diesel!
It seems that it would be easier to build portable synthetic diesel plants and move them to the old land fills around the country and create synthetic diesel from all the methane that's available. Or tap into some natural gas where it's not economical to transport. Or just build a plant in DC and capture the political gas to create the diesel and the hot air as a power source. This water source method seems like a new way to sell wind mills and other items or as a new income source for Holland since flowers probably aren't selling as good due to the wonderful state of the world economy. Probably good for Europe as they are all packed together like sardines, but maybe not so much in Texas or Montana. Just some thoughts... Best Wishes, Roger Roger Hale Dinnerware Classics, Inc.
