Last W108 glass I got was from Pilkinton Classics. It was a Sigla branded
windshield, very nice.

116 671 01 10 - $386.10 but Classic shows it as NLA (no longer available)
Can’t hurt to call and ask. Could be some sitting around in the corner of a
parts depot. There’s no MB dealer in Columbus? I was trying to think where the
next closest city where there might be a dealer.

I don't have a local dealer. Nearest one is in Carmel where the rich
folks live, about 90 minutes drive depending on traffic.
I'll get Dan the VIN though, I'm curious.

Give me a VIN and I’ll look up the part number for it in the EPC. At least then
we could see if it’s still available through Mercedes.

I personally wouldn't care too much about OE glass; my 300SD is not a
show car by any means. I just assumed that a place like Safelite would
not have glass for that car since there's surely a very low demand for
it. I'll give them a call on Monday and also check with my insurance on
coverage.
I ran a windshield claim through Allstate about 25 years ago.
They hired a company to handle the deal (USA Auto Glass?).
Their company dealt with my local glass shop, basically told them 'we'll
give you 35% of MSRP plus $25 labor and you'll like it'. I'd picked a
glass shop that only used factory
I’ve tried that approach on two occasions and the insurance company refused as
well as the glass company. You want it replaced and they’re paying? You get the
glass their supplier uses.
At least that’s been my experience.

Geico covered a small chip repair by Safelite and the results were
satisfactory (1983 300TD). In your case, since repair is not feasible, ask
your auto insurance to cover a replacement w/s but if you want OEM perhaps
you can negotiate to pay the difference in wholesale terms...

Glass guys are all about the profit, and with the cheap imported glass that’s
out there they wan tot use it so they can increase their profit margin. At
least that’s my take based on my experiences with windshield replacement over
the last 2-3 years.

I suppose on a nice car with comprehensive insurance (USAA) I might be able
to insist on the dealer glass, but all my cars are older than 1996 so I
can't really justify comprehensive insurance. Maybe once I get the '95 124
Cabriolet going I'll put comprehensive on that, if it progresses beyond
Even so, in Florida comprehensive insurance coves any glass damage. The catch
is that you have to use the supplier that your insurance company approves, so
that usually means one of the national chains like Safelite, who won’t use OE
glass. I’ve lost that fight on several occasions. If you
Yeah, you've developed a good rapport, I have not. Pays to be nice!

Ouch, that stinks. I'll bet there is aftermarket glass available.
The MB dealer price for a windshield on my 124 sedan was only $500 for the
part, I thought that wasn't too bad, but they will only sell the glass with
an installation which is another $300 or more I'll bet.
