When it goes to install is stops the install and goes to install the program manager deal. Right off the bat it says something about tp/ip corrupt or something like that. Don, Short answer: No. Long answer: Only if you need access to European part numbers or datacards, or other markets (Japan, South Africa, etc). Or info on Mogs, trucks, busses, etc. There are a handful of updates corrections even on some of the older cars but not enough to really justify the hassle of upgrading the EPC. The WW version is a very different program that requires a license key, and installation of MB Program Manager (mostly for the license manager). The USA-only EPC is a much simpler installation (Aug-2002 is the newest version I know of commonly available for the USA setup.) :-) -dm -- Date: Mon, 7 Nov 2005 21:17:50 -0600 From: OK Don [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [MBZ] anybody have the new DVD version of the EPC? Re: [MBZ] anybody have the new DVD version of the EPC?
Kaleb, Just got off the phone with Indy. Here's what you have to do. 1. Install Microsoft Loopback Adapter. 2. Disable all other Network Adapters. 3. Start the KeyGen program and Minimize. 4. Start EPC install program. 5. When the install program gets to the screen that has the MAC Address of the Loopback adapter. Write it down and go back to the KeyGen put the MAC Addy into the KenGen. You will get a code back. Copy Past that number into the EPC. Chose the Install Options you want. 6. Follow the Instructions from that point on. _*NOTE*_ If you have a firewall that allows blocking programs from accessing the Internet select DENY. The EPC wants to be like ET and Phone Home. If that happens MB will shut it down. 7. Reboot the computer. Wait at least 5 min before Launching the EPC, There are 2 services in XP that the EPC needs running before it will start. Those services take a few min. to start up. BTW if you Start EPC and it won't let you access any data or comes up in German just shut it down wait a min. or two and restart. Also if you have the WIS program Install it first. The WIS install procedure is the same as the EPC. If this doesn't work let me know. Russ W. Russ Williams wrote: Kaleb, Yep there is a trick to it. I've never understood the fascination with the loopback adapter. I have never needed one (don't even know what one would look like, lol!). I've also not had any problems with it 'phoning home'. I'm running XP SP2 with the firewall turned on, but it's never asked me about allowing any EPC net traffic through. I wonder if all this jazz is for an older version or something. Dave, Don't know about your version, But the one my Indy installed would not work without the loopback adapter installed. He fought with it for 3 hours. As for phoning home one of the Indies in N.O. told buddy (My Indy) at a MB Tech Class that he allowed his WIS EPC to access the internet. About 2 weeks after he installed it. He launched the EPC to look up a part. A Screen came up to WARNING YOU HAVE A PIRATED COPY OF THE EPC Contact MBNA for a Legal copy. Same thing for his copy of the WIS. Re: [MBZ] anybody have the new DVD version of the EPC?
Russ, That's bizarre. I suspect the 'pirated' copies are ones that are 'cracked' and don't use a keygen. The keygen creates a real license key, same as you would get from MB. I have my EPC and WIS installed at home, on a PC connected to the internet via broadband. I have no 3rd party firewall (no ZoneAlarm, etc) just the XP built-in thingy. It's never asked to connect and I have no idea if it does or not. Works fine though. It also works on a standalone box that's not connected to the internet. I think it depends on where you obtained the EPC and WIS... there may be 'cracked' versions out there that require the loopback, or that can't be connected to the internet. The old USA-only WIS and EPC have NO problems with this at all. They're probably still floating around FTP servers, or on eBay... :-) +dm -- Date: Mon, 07 Nov 2005 22:51:00 -0600 From: Russ Williams [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [MBZ] anybody have the new DVD version of the EPC?
