It will be a great favor if you can help me with this request.

In a specimen that may be a hematite, a strong presence of nickel was found.
Is that possible? While the specimen is very attractive to magnets, tests
positive for nickel, and looks and weighs like iron, it has many pock marks
and some white inclusions that may be quartz. Anyone come across
When testing for nickel using 1% dimethylglyoxine and 10% ammonium
hydroxide, is the dimethyl applied thoroughly first to a clean section of
the specimen, then the applicator dipped into the ammonia and examined a
minute or so later? My instructions have walked away, and it has been some

Hi, all:
I have entertained children, adults, and skeptics for years with the
crossing clothes hangers, but never once have I had the wires bend down of
their own accord toward a spot on the ground. They will cross and uncross
frequently as I walk along of their own accord, and they do so

Hi, everyone;
Happy New Year to all! May 2010 bring much health, happiness, and
prosperity to everyone.
My new year will be a lot more fun if I can find better equipment for
cutting and grinding my meteorites. If anyone has good equipment that
he/she has outgrown and wants to move it,
Great pic, Erik. Neat dad, too!

Hi, Gary:
Unless your comment I am guessing that if you can't afford to travel to
Tucson then you probably don't have much money to spend at the show. May as
well stay home and leave the shows to the buyers with money to spend. was

Hi, Listees:
Puzzle me this, please. L4 chondrites have little iron and little magnetic
attraction as compared to an H5, so how does their weight to size compare?
That is, is a 100 gram of H5 half the size of a 100 gram of L4 (or some
other relationship)? As there is little iron in a L4, what

Hi, all:
The photos of the day make it clear that there are many shapes, substances,
colors, and sizes of meteorites, and the beauty that can be seen in some of the
cuts is astounding. Constrained by budget limitations, I cannot obtain
specimen samples of a great many meteorites at once.
Hi, listees:
There seem to be two scale cubes, a 1-cm and a 1-in. Can anyone give me a
lead to a source for them? I found one 1-cm at $38. Is that the going
price? Happy hunting!
