[meteorite-list] Ancient Meteorite Coins

2019-08-18 Thread MICHAEL BLOOD via Meteorite-list
I now have a website up with info on meteorite coins of ancient Greece and
Rome.
Right now it is strictly information. I will add coins for sale over the
weekend, but for
those just interested in information I do go over the various stones found in
different
configurations on various coins. It is an abbreviated version of the
introduction to the
subject in my book. Here you can get it free:

Best wishes to all,

Michael Blood

PS: If anyone has some of these coins they want to sell, please contact me at
mlbl...@cox.net mailto:mlbl...@cox.net with "METEORITE COINS" in the subject
box thanks

Re: [meteorite-list] Ad: Ancient Meteorite Coins

2019-07-31 Thread MICHAEL BLOOD via Meteorite-list
After hundreds of hours of research and a comparable number of hours of
consultation and Photoshop work I am happy to announce the results:

Meteorites & Sacred Stones on Coins of Ancient Greece & Rome

Now available in both paperback and in Kindlebook formats at:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/1082070726

If you get the paperback, you will be given the option during "checkout" to buy
the Kindlebook at 70% off. (30% of the price).

Here is the blurb:

Now there is finally a book describing and showing examples of the Meteorite &
Sacred Stones found on many of the Ancient Greek and Roman Coins. The text is
arranged to give an overview of the sacred stones and meteorites, their origin
myths, names and locations followed by an extensive chronological list of
chapters on Emperors and royalty who's coins show depictions of these various
meteorites and sacred stones with photo depictions of each along with a
description of the issuing person, his or her time and nature of influence,
etc. There is an extensive References list at the end of the book allowing for
further research on the part of the reader. Never has such a numismatic
reference been available for the collector of these types of coins. I doubt any
reader will fail to discover coins of which they were not heretofore aware.

Tim Heitz and I communicated at length many dozens of times throughout this
process and I suspect Tim has one of the largest collections of these coins in
the world. Many of the coins (which appear in photos throughout the book) are
in exceptionally fine to mint condition but more commonly available conditions
are also pictured.

I do hope you check it out and if you purchase, I would greatly appreciate your
taking one or two minutes to leave feedback on the purchase site. Of course,
every author would love to receive 5 stars, but any and all honest feedback is
encouraged and very much welcomed.

Thanks,
Michael Blood

2019-05-28 Thread MICHAEL BLOOD via Meteorite-list
Thanks to all who have sent photos. Almost all of them are in good focus with
solid contrasting background.
(Of course, I can always use MORE . especially some large speciments, but
any nice holes will be greatly

I do need Robert Ward to email me at: mlbl...@cox.net

lost when my
email program crashed (I now use email via the net program provided by COX).
So, please contact
me, Robert, regarding the weight of one of the fine specimen photos you sent

Also, any others who want to have their specimen(s) in the book, please email
me at the above
address with "HOLES" in the subject line so I don't miss it among the throngs
of crapola adds, etc.

2019-05-12 Thread MICHAEL BLOOD via Meteorite-list
I would like to thank all those who have sent me so many photos of meteorites
with holes,
including the following:
Alex, Eidel, Arlene Schiazer, Bern Pauli, Bob Verish, John, Lutzon, John
Mixter, Kevin Witts, Mike Gilmer, Peter Scherff, Robert Mularczyk, Robert
Woodard, Roberto Vargas and Sean Murry.

However, alone with my collection, these "only" amount to several dozens and I
would like to have sever hundred in the book. I know they are out there
please be aware that your specimen increases in value if featured in a book and
increases drematically if it makes the cover.

I need all good holes, but especially am laking in large meteorties. If you
ever photographed the Tucson Ring, you own the rights to the photo and I
encourage you to submit it, please (first one in/first one used (given equal
quality).

C'mon you guys! I kNOW some of you have some nice, big fat meteorites with
holes!

Please send as attached JPG (s) to: mlbl...@cox.net

Thanks, everyone,

Thanks to all those who have sent in photos so far! Some really nice
Specimens and some of the photos are stunning! (We have some very
Talented photographers on this list).

Some have asked if their photos were OK - hell yes! If it is in focus
And decent solid background they are all great - you don’t have to
Be a spectacular photographer for your specimen to SHINE!

I do hope the others of you who have specimens with holes will be willing
to submit them…. I hope you know, when a specimen appears in a book
it goes up in value…and if it is so impressive as to make the cover - it goes
up A LOT.

Re: [meteorite-list] [IMCA List] Sad News - Fred Olsen

2018-10-13 Thread Michael Blood via Meteorite-list
Fred Olson was one of the greats among us in terms of his contribution
To all members of the community with his all-encompassing smile and
Open heart.

While I have not been able to make it to Tucson for a few years, now, when
I did I never failed to stop by and say hi to Fred who was a virtual
Conduit of light, love and good vibes which he freely bequeathed
to all.

When I “stepped in it” (more than a couple of times) due to my ego
And/or naïveté and/or stupidity, Fred never faltered in his good will.
I will never forget that even at my worst, Fred stayed true to being his best.

What a guy.

What a loss for the meteoritic community.

Re: [meteorite-list] Lunar thin slices. (Ad)

2017-07-14 Thread Michael Blood via Meteorite-list
Greetings,

As you know I now rarely post to the list - but I do follow it.

I purchased some large pieces of NWA 11273 Lunar Feldspathic Regolith Breccia.
I had it thin (2mm) sliced and each slice polished on one side and smooth wire
cut
On the other side by the premier meteorite cutter, Marlin Cilz.

As you have been informed, this material is no longer being released to the
collecting
Community While you can still get this from ET at $25/g, it is a stone over 1
Kg and over
$12K (TOTALLY a steal)…. These are THIN, polished slices. If you want a chunk
of this
Material, you can still get it at bargain prices - here are some KILLER thinly
sliced pieces
At a price that allows any collector to have a LARGE slice in their collection.

See these gems here:

Thanks and very best wishes to all,
Michael Blood

PS: Sorry, no shipping to Italy
US and Canada, $6.65 Priority Mail
Outside US $25 registered mail
CA residents only, add 8.75% CA sales tax

[meteorite-list] Comment

2017-01-24 Thread Michael Blood via Meteorite-list
Hi all list members,

I have not posted to the list in quite a while. I did not like some
Of the posts I had made, especially regarding other list members, so
I withdraw for about 18 months to self assess before posting again.

My email application totally crashed recently and it has taken
Weeks to retrieve ANY of my old address book. When I did, it was
From 2014! So, anyone and everyone who has changed their email,
Phone and/or address since sometime in 2014, PLEASE email me
With all information, putting “UPDATE” in the subject box - Thank you.

In addition, the same happened to my sales lists, of which, in
Addition, I lost ALL of list #5.
So, if you would like to receive my VERY OCCASIONAL (i.e.
2 to 5 times a year) ads, please email me with “METOEORITE ADS”
In the subject box and I will add you to my list. Everyone knows my
Ads ALWAYS contain some killer pieces/prices that result in even
Other dealers contacting me immediately.
IF YOU WERE ALREADY ON MY LIST please include the following:
1) Your old email address
2) the List # you were on (some were on more than one list - inc. all)
3) Your current email address
I will make sure you are only on one list and your email is current.
NONE of my emails are ever sold, traded or exchanged to other
Parties - ever.

Thanks to all list members for their patience with me.
Hope to see y’all in TUCSON at ET’s on Fri, Feb 3 and/or
Blaine’s Sat, Feb 4 where I will sign Aspects of Meteorite Orientation
(Which will be on Show Special 1/2 price)
Very best wishes to all,
Michael Blood

Re: [meteorite-list] Another warning re sales to Italy

2016-07-26 Thread Michael Blood via Meteorite-list
Hi Joachim,

You did not hear what I said. I said only that there were
Innumerable reports re the unreliability of the postal service
In Italy and there was a notorious person there that has many
Times ripped off dealers in the US and who constantly changes
His name and email address to effect such rip offs, avoid being
Ousted from the meteorite list, etc. - and that the individual I
Dealt with I would never deal with again. (Dean Bessey reported
He had a disastrous experience with this same individual).

Just because I will never sell to Italy again in no way means
I think Italians are some group of untrustworthy individuals. It is
Only two turkeys and a dysfunctional postal system that guides my
Actions. Not some pitiful bigoted attitude!

Remember, I live in a country where, God help us, a notorious
Scam artist fascist with an outrageous narcissistic personality disorder
Is liable to be seen as representative of our people!

Best regards, Michael

Re: [meteorite-list] Another warning re sales to Italy

2016-07-23 Thread Michael Blood via Meteorite-list
Hi Doug,
Thanks for the kind words. However, I have saved all
The emails and believe me, there was absolutely no confusion
Re shipping - -clarified clearly (twice) that if Fed EX were
less than $50 I would refund him the difference and if it
were more than $50 he would have to agree to paypal me
the difference.
He stated I should not have put the "real value" on the shipment -
AFTER I had sent it - When Fed Ex turned out to be more, then
He complained he would have to pay the import fee and wouldn't
Pay any more for the shipping.
Kind and gentle is always best and I tried that for several
Posts to no avail whatever.
No, this is a clear cut case of being ripped off. I suspect it is
Our old "friend" as his approach is nearly identical and his English
Is similarly distorted. But whether it is or not the results are identical.
I, too, like to think people are basically honest and live up to
Their commitments and I do deal with people that way and the vast
Majority of people in the meteorite community are that way.
Also, I do not believe for a second this is "typical of Italians" -
only two - and possibly only one - have/has acted this way. Every
Country has both the saintly and the cur.
Good to hear from you, Doug,
Michael

Re: [meteorite-list] Another warning re sales to Italy

2016-07-23 Thread Michael Blood via Meteorite-list
 Hi all,

You all may recall that several years ago multiple
Dealers warned against sales to Italy. It seams at
Least one buyer was claiming not to have received
Shipments that were verified, not to have received
Money that was sent him, etc.

Unfortunately, I failed to head warnings about
Shipping to Italy. A different Italian contacted me (Or
At least one using a different name and email) and
I explained even Registered Mail seems to fail to
guarantee delivery in Italy but I somehow allowed
him to talk me into a Fed Ex shipment of a specimen.
I agreed, providing he send $50 shipping and agree
to pay any additional amount Fed Ex might charge.

Perhaps it is the same fellow from several years ago
Using a different name (he was so good at that Art could
Not keep him off the list because he would just join again
Using a different name and email). So, beware of:

"Davide Urbinati"

Even though I scanned the receipt and sent it to him
He refused to pay the $59.79 Fed Ex charged me. So, I am
Out that $.

Believe me, I will never ship to Italy again.

Better luck to all of you,
Michael Blood

[meteorite-list] Orientated Meteorites

2016-05-04 Thread Michael Blood via Meteorite-list
Hi all,
A couple months ago several people contacted me wanting to purchase
My book, ASPECTS OF METEORITE ORIENTATION.
I found I had only a couple left and checked the print-on-demand
website where it had been published and found they no longer provide
Print-on-demand service.
I therefore had it republished and it can now be had directly (in
Paperback, at:

https://www.createspace.com/6225298

I also had it published in Kindle format (you can get the free Kindle
App for any device, including your phone at
https://www.google.com/#q=free+kindle+apps )
And can purchase the book in Kindle form at:

https://goo.gl/VfX6qZ

For those unfamiliar with the book it includes the following:
Orientation Defined,
Effect of Orientation on Value,
Degrees of Orientation,
TYPES:
Domed,
Shields,
Nosecones,
Teardrops & Bullets,
Flowlines,
Lipping,
Backside Pooling & Bubbling,
Regmaglypting,
Unique Shapes,
Flight Markings vs. Oriented
- multiple photos of specimens in each category.

Greetings all,
Here are 17 specimens from that private collection I am selling.
These were originally individually chosen for a personal collection
And are being priced to sell quickly. Also, the few that haven't sold from
Previous sales are reduced 10% EACH TIME they don't sell, so, there
Are some real deals "below the line" as well.
Regardless, you will enjoy seeing many of these at:

Please let me know where you live when ordering so I can
Quote you a total that is $6.10 shipping Priority Mail in the US
Or $32 Registered Mail overseas.
All requests will be filled in the order they arrive in my email,
So a quick response increases dramatically the likelihood you
will get what you want.
I will get back to you right away and I will
Also take down from the website each item it is sold.

Re: [meteorite-list] Awfully quiet

2015-04-30 Thread Michael Blood via Meteorite-list
Hi Frank,
Personally, I do not read nearly as many of the list posts as
I used to because:

1) People often do not change the subject box even though they are
Off on an entirely different topic - if I am burned out on a given topic
And people keep not changing the subject box, I just ignore those posts.
2) Posts are not identified as from a specific member when they arrive
3) Many do not sign their posts, so even if you read it you don't know
who posted it even if you read do it.
4) Many of those who do sign their post only use their first name, eg:
"Michael" . Who knows who that is? Michael Blood, Michael
Farmer, Michael Casper (yes, he does occasionally still post), Michael
Gilmore, or any of a number of other Michaels?
5) Over the years I grew somewhat selective - as when a couple of nuts
Were "duking it out" over who knows what.
6) I became even more selective because I didn't care much about what
several members had to say - While there were other members who's
posts I would never failed to read.
7) If people disagree with you there are more than a few on the list who
Can be very rude in their responses. Others, of course, will disagree but
Remain civil, which is fine - but who needs the rude attacks of the
contentious?

So, those are my reasons - they probably are not the same as
everyone else's who have diminishing posting over time, but my guess is
That nearly everyone in this category share at least some of these reasons.
Sincerely, Michael Blood

2015-01-19 Thread Michael Blood via Meteorite-list
I believe about 13 thin slices of the core - which are about the diameter of
A quarter, but only about 60% as thick - total in the entire meteorite
community. It is always far more expensive than the 2nd stone from the
Smithsonian (which is not the hammer stone), due to higher desirability
Combined with a far greater degree of rarity.

Anyone know what is up with this? Anyone else having the

I have taken to growing cuttings of Plumeria - the

Importation, CA refuses - even though all cuttings have been

2014-10-17 Thread Michael Blood via Meteorite-list
Greetings all,
Several years ago, following the Mifflin fall there was
Discussion on the list about the possibility of building a display
of a small collection of meteorites and some Mifflin specimens
For the local school. I volunteered to build it and several people
Donated money to help with the construction and purchase of
Mifflin specimens.
A variety of roadblocks have contributed to my failure to
Finish this project and I would like to return all the money donated
By folks on the list. There were some dozen or so such donations
And all but one were like $5 to $25, while one was well over $100.
One person also sent me a box of misc. meteorite specimens. I need to
Hear from all these people, please.
People who donated, please email me directly at: mlbl...@cox.net
Stating the amount you donated.

If your PayPal account is OTHER than the email account with
Which you are contacting me, please provide your PayPal account
Email.

I will return all donations via the "Gift" option since I am unable
To retrieve PayPal data from that old which would have made "refund"
An option. In any event, you will not be charged by PayPal for the
Refunding of the full amount of your donation. NOTE: This is within
PayPal guidelines as this involves non-profit donations and is, in fact,
Involving refunded interactions.

Re: [meteorite-list] List change

2014-05-09 Thread Michael Blood via Meteorite-list
Yesterday there seemed to be a BIG change in the list...
All posts were identified as coming from "Meteorite List"
Instead of from the sender as it has always done before.

Does anyone know why? It made it Much easier in the
Past to quickly decide what posts you wanted to read
And often which you didn't care to read - or which first,
Etc.

I always read every post Bernd, Anne Black, Pual Harris,
And several other wrote, usually read most of the others
And rarely read some and never read a few (over the years).

This new system makes it so you don't know who wrote
What until you are at the end of the post and/or hit
"Resend All."

While one can still prioritize by topic one can no longer prioritize
By sender.

Is this temporary? Did I miss a post from Art about the change?
When I noticed it no one commented at all.
Whazzup?

Best to all,
Michael (Blood)
