I can load FreeBSD 8.2 on it no problem. Knoppix livecd also comes up
just fine. I have not tried Debian on the box.

I've had some problems installing 5.0 on a couple of older machines. For
at least two of them upgrading the BIOS did the trick. The latest BIOS
for your ProLiant appears to be 4.1.0:
