Re: [MOPO] Paypal's refund policy

2020-09-08 Thread Tommy Barr
It is my understanding (though I could be wrong) that with its Managed
Payments eBay will refund all fees where a full refund to the buyer is
given, but not on a partial refund.

I see ebay fees are just one expense of being in business. If I was
taking credit cards direct, my costs would be no less.

But I never have any problems with the platform to speak of.

ebay I left in 2005 and I'm happier for it

Hi to everyone and hope you are all well in these difficult times

I am just curious as to what some of the dealers in this group think of Paypal’s refund policy eg:

If you need to refund a customer because they changed their mind, made a mistake, thought they were purchasing a video, over paid on postage, etc etc, Paypal refuses to refund the fee on the portion of the refund.

I think it is very poor service to keep the fees even when the full amount has been refunded through no fault of the seller. What do you all think?

You are right on John. I've had customers buy things and pay for it and then
decide they didn't want it. Recently a woman purchases a signed Doris Day
photo from me and bought it and her husband had a fit and made her
cancel the order. It cost me a lot in the paypal fees for something I had no
control over. As they said to me, it's the cost of doing
business...ok

Hi Helmut
I think this illustrates my concern. Paypal fees are a lot more than 0.40 cents
for refunds but many sellers are simply not aware of this.

Here is an example

A buyer purchases an item for $300.00 and pays by Paypal - their fee is approx.
12.00
Buyer changes their mind and requests refund. Seller refunds the $300.00

Paypal still charges the seller 12.00 despite the fact that the transaction has
been cancelled and the money refunded. This all started in Oct last year.

Re: [MOPO] Paypal's refund policy

2020-09-07 Thread Susan Heim
I spoke with a rep from ebay and they said they had been getting a lot of calls
on this issue. However, they explained it away saying many other selling
venues are doing the same thing. I just don't see how it can be legal to
charge a fee on the sales tax portion of the sale, plus as a company you don't
submit sales tax returns daily, think of all the interest they are making on
that sales tax during the time it's paid and the time they submit it to the
state.

So, while it sounds like a lot of people are voicing their complaints, who
knows what will happen. Ebay does have a huge and worldwide base and that is
the key point that
makes it attractive to sellers. As for paypal, I've never had any issues
there. As a matter of fact, when I call, I always get a very professional
person who helps with any questions I might have. I can see that they have to
be
scrambling right now for business since Ebay has pretty much cut them out of
the payment process, at least here in the U.S. I've gotten several emails
from Paypal in the past month suggesting alternative ways to sell using
them for the payment process.

2020-09-07 Thread Kirby McDaniel
I wish (in some ways, of course) that I could say that it is not worth it for
us. But it is.

Sue, the word is not "crazy". It's GREEDY.

It would be more honest, if not less greedy, if they would cut out the TAX-FEE
and just raise the final value fee percentage. But that would be a more naked
money-grab. If their sellers would push back in sufficient numbers, they
would cut it out. But, apparently, they don't.

2020-09-07 Thread Helmut Hamm
Rich,

the ridiculous Paypal fees are not limited to ebay. When somebody sends me
money and I refund the full amount, Paypal still charges me some kind of
'transaction fee'. It's 'only' 40 cents or something, but for an enterprise
like Paypal it should add up to a nice extra profit.

It seems to me that 'ebay managed payments' is exactly what I expected it to
be. I'm so glad I closed my ebay shop instead of prolonging my subscription for
another year. I could use the extra income of course, but with all the hassle
involved, it's just not worth it.

Well, actually the problem is exactly the same for pros and casual sellers
although it is certainly worse on eBay. If someone purchases something but
changes their mind and wants a refund, the seller refunds the money. However,

Re: [MOPO] Paypal's refund policy

2020-09-06 Thread Susan Heim
So right Todd..and the problem is buyers want you to ship their items
immediately and the money hasn't even made it to you bank account yet. It's
been taking 3 days for ebay to send it to my bank during the weekdays (they
don't do payouts on weekends) and then another 3 days for it to get into my
bank account. Now, and I don't see how it can be legal, they are taking final
value fees on the sales tax of an item. The seller never even sees the sales
tax as it is collected by ebay.

I spoke with an ebay rep a couple weeks ago because I had a buyer in Ireland
who was trying to pay for an item she purchased from me and she kept getting an
error message. Well, it turns out that many countries aren't part of the
managed payments plan yet so if they bought their item on ebay in their
country, they can't pay for it unless they log into ebay/u.s. since I am a U.S.
based sellerthe rep told me that ebay is trying to make all countries part
of the
managed payments plan but it will take a year or so to implement that. I've
already had two international customers that had problems paying for their
items and both wanted to just cancel the order because it was such a hassle.

Sue is 100% correct!! Ebay has never done this till recently.

They are now also forcing sellers to be part of this "Managed Payments" scam
where they now control all of your money so they can hold onto it for days and
get the interest.

Instead of sellers having instant access to their money from PayPal, that is no
more. Ebay will hold onto it and give it back to you in dribs and drabs. I'm
suppose to get paid daily but sometimes it takes 5 or 6 days to get paid.

Ebay says "Managed Payments" is so much easier and less expensive for sellers
but as it turns out, especially now that they're including the Final Value Fee
on the State Sales Tax, it's more expensive.

Since I was forced to go on "Managed Payments" early last month, I believe that
is when they started taking the Final Value Fee on the sales tax for me.

Re: [MOPO] Paypal's refund policy

2020-09-06 Thread John Reid
I was also forced to sign up for Managed payments and they have just kicked
in for my two ebay stores. I didn't know about the FVF on Sales Tax but I
guess they will be doing that with all taxes inc GST.

Sue is 100% correct!! Ebay has never done this till recently.

They are now also forcing sellers to be part of this "Managed Payments" scam
where they now control all of your money so they can hold onto it for days
and get the interest.

Instead of sellers having instant access to their money from PayPal, that is
no more. Ebay will hold onto it and give it back to you in dribs and drabs.
I'm suppose to get paid daily but sometimes it takes 5 or 6 days to get
paid.

Ebay says "Managed Payments" is so much easier and less expensive for
sellers but as it turns out, especially now that they're including the Final
Value Fee on the State Sales Tax, it's more expensive.

Since I was forced to go on "Managed Payments" early last month, I believe
that is when they started taking the Final Value Fee on the sales tax for
me.

Hi to everyone and hope you are all well in these difficult times

I am just curious as to what some of the dealers in this group think of
Paypal's refund policy eg:

If you need to refund a customer because they changed their mind, made a
mistake, thought they were purchasing a video, over paid on postage, etc
etc, Paypal refuses to refund the fee on the portion of the refund.

I think it is very poor service to keep the fees even when the full amount
has been refunded through no fault of the seller. What do you all think?
