There is an interesting article in the Pioneer Press about the local
trumpeter swans. Many have been treated for lead poisoning and other
injuries at the Wildlife Rehab Center and the efforts to get the swans to
migrate appear to have failed. Here is a link to the article:

The Townsend's Solitaire first reported by Robin LaFortune at Lake
Rebecca Park in western Hennepin Co was present this morning in the
dog off-leash area east of Co Rd 92, feeding on the juniper berries.
This area is immediately east of the trailhead described by Robin.
Also present in
Finally Redpolls arrived in our yard, only two however. Last time we had them
here was January of 2005.

Thanks to a Drew Smith call , I was able to relocate White-winged
Crossbills at Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights. There were
25-30 birds feeding on the Spruce Cones.

Gary Leeper found a male American Three-toed Woodpecker at Lighthouse
Point in Two Harbors on the 8th and it was still present today. It
has been working several dead and dying spruces east of the
lighthouse along the (unplowed) walking trail.
This afternoon I found a dead Boreal Owl in the
On the way home today I was thinking it would be a perfect time for a SNOWY
OWL. Sure enough about 2 miles from home there was a first year male or female
atop a utility pole. I slowed down just enough to make the ID and then rushed
home and picked up my wife to come back for another look.
Driving around the bog today and spotted a Black-billed Magpie off Lavell Rd
(Co. Rd 230)..

A male Barrow's Goldeneye was relocated by the Minn Birding Weekends
group ~10:30 this morning on Lake Superior at 21st Ave East.
Presumably this is the same individual seen here in late December. As
we watched it among a flock of Common Goldeneyes, the flock took off
and flew in the
Laura Coble and I found rough-legged hawks in 3 different locations in
the vicinity of Northfield today. One cooperative bird perched for at
least 20 minutes near the roadside on Hwy. 19, just east of the
driveway entry to the boy scout camp, before lifting up and flying
east. The second one was

Illinois.

- Glaucous Gulls
- Northern Hawk Owl: Airport Rd and Rice Lake Rd. The owl was north of the
On County Rd. 199 right by 133 Meadowlands there is fresh cow poo spread on
the field on the north west corner of that intersection basically and I had
about 50-100+ Snow Buntings flying around and picking through it.. Below is
