A Neotropic Cormorant was observed on Current Lake, in Murray county Friday
afternoon. The bird was observed from Swensen county park, on the East side
of Current Lake. It was observed from 3:00 pm to 3:15 pm and was still present
when our group left the area. The bird was

I sent this photo album to my cousin, Dr Ted Anderson, who got his PhD from
KS U. He studied HOSP and ETSPs off and on his working life. He wrote a
book The Ubiquitous House Sparrow published by Oxford Univ Press a few
years ago.

I really enjoyed
Scott Meyer, Judy Morris-Meyer, Birgit Johnson and I found a *Vesper
Sparrow *in the lawn just north of the playground located in the northwest
part of Veteran's Park around 9:20 am this morning. If we hadn't taken this
extra spur as Scott suggested, we wouldn't have seen this
bird--sparrowdipity!
Thanks to Janice Dunlap's post about the mudflats along Flying Cloud Dr in the
Minnesota River Valley, I made a stop there both yesterday and today. Both
days there were Greater Yellowlegs, Lesser Yellowlegs, and Pectoral Sandpiper
on the mudflats of Rice Lake. Today I may have picked out a
Ron Erpelding just called me to say that he had re-found the Neotropic
Cormorant at the previously-posted location and it was still there as of
2:20 today. He did add that a number of American White Pelicans had moved
onto the point as well, making it difficult to see the cormorant.
Herb
The Hermit Thrush that has wintered along the bluff trail at the Old Cedar Ave
bridge is still there. Wednesday morning it was singing rather feebly and was
singing aging this afternoon around 2:00. A Tree Swallow was out on Long Meadow
Lake.
