I live in a *very* urban area. Between two major thoroughfares. I can throw
a rock from my front yard and hit the firehouse (literally).
Over the course of a year, I may see something good during migration but I
tend to ignore the "yard birds" list because of my urban location and
I've had a few people contact me about the timing of the dove. The last
visits we have noticed were 6:30 - 7:30 pm yesterday, 8:00 am, 10:30 am,
and just now at 3:00 pm today (it is currently feeding out there).
Previous visits were in the early morning and late afternoon, so it seems
like any tim
Yesterday I guided a gentleman around from California, and we were treated
to many beautiful views and sounds of Sax-Zim Bog. Being from California,
he witnessed over a dozen birds that he had never seen before. From hearing
two Boreal Chickadees to seeing multiple Yellow-bellied Flycatchers... and
County listers might be interested to hear of an out-of-range Acadian
Flycatcher in Otter Tail County. It was heard calling last week in Maplewood
State Park, 0.2 miles beyond the contact station.

I am a birder (sorry, haven’t adjusted to the retro but
definitive term, “birdwatcher”, again.
Besides, half of my birds come from hearing, not watching. But that’s another
article).
For me, this means driving to my local refuge (20 miles
distant), interspersing
I'm not sure signage would do anything meaningful. I can easily envision an
updraft carrying a young bird right up and over the bridge (and into traffic)
in an instant.

I'm so sad to hear that. I understand the concept of site-faithfulness for
nesting, but wonder why that sort of recurring mishap doesn't drive them
away for being too high-risk. It must be based only on success at getting
fledglings out of the nest intact, not keeping them so.
