Today will go down as one of my most memorable spring days. I was at Rapids
Lake for 6.5 hours this morning and I needed all that time. If the river
trail was not flooded and impassable at either end still, I would have needed
at least an additional 3-4 hours to adequately cover the area.
33 birders saw 73 species of birds including a few reported after most left!
Highlights include!
Common term
And 17 Species of Warblers!
Northern Parula, orange-crown,Nashville, Yellow,chestnut sided,
magnolia,Blackburnian,Yellow rump,Palm, Pine,Blackpoll,Blackand white,Am.
Redstart,Ovenbird,NWa
I had a chance to spend a couple of hours the past mornings at Hok-si-La, and
while I was only in the area near the parking lot, there were some nice birds.
Though not high in numbers, was able to see the following:
Yellow Warbler
Palm Warbler (higher in number and the most common warbler past 2
I apologize for posting the Hooded and Cerulean Warbler observations at
Murphy-Hanrahan Regional Park yesterday. Because I was using an obsolete map to
navigate, I didn't realize that the area where these observations were made is
off limits during the summer.

Found mid-day yesterday by Jim Lind in the garden area of the Essentia clinic
at the SE corner of 4th Ave East & 1st Street; it was then relocated later in
the day in the alley between 3rd & 4th Avenues E and between 1st & 2nd Streets.
I then saw it this morning, May 9, between 9:30 and 10:00 at
Curlew Sandpiper last seen a little before 10:30 Wednesday morning. Several
people still present trying to relocate. Birds continue to move in and out
of the lake area in small groups.

Several of us have been diligently examining the hoard of shorebirds at
Lone Tree Lake in Lyon County this morning. Despite a good diversity of
shorebird species present, the Curlew Sandpiper does not appear to be among
them.

Three Rivers Park District invites all birders to Murphy, but we do have
several trails closed during the spring to protect the Hooded Warblers and
other nesting birds from disturbance. This includes the area mentioned in
the original email.
