I saw a single male Avocet at Bass Ponds this morning ~1020am. If you walk
~20 yards from post #7 towards post #6 it was at the distance of the beaver
lodge about one binocular field to the right. Around 10 minutes later it
flew toward post #6, but I couldn't see it again or where it landed. This

At 8:30 this morning I saw what I take to be a Nelson's Sharp-tailed
Sparrow, a bird I've not seen before, near the look-out dock at Old Cedar
Bridge. The bird was viewed only two brief times about 30 feet away with the
sun a mere 30 degrees to the right. The crown stripe seemed quite dark and
Thanks to Paul and David (and others?) for the median date list. Today's
(3/28) south list had w. pelican, l. yellowlegs, and gc kinglet. I had one
hit--a male golden-crowned kinglet (foy for me) at Old Cedar Bridge. Now for
tomorrow I'm ready to go with osprey, bc night-heron, yb sapsucker, and

At 9:15 this morning I saw a singing Acadian Flycatcher on the lake side of
the bluff trail 50 yards or less past the first (short) walkway at Old Cedar
Bridge. I don't recall seeing or hearing this species here before. Jim
About 8:50 this morning at the second walkway (the first long one) from the
parking lot along the bluff trail at Old Cedar Bridge, Eloise Jasken and I
saw a Cerulean Warbler that was singing softly about halfway up the bluff. I
checked back at noon and wasn't able to relocate it. Other FOY birds
That White-eyed Vireo I mentioned yesteday turned out to be a White-eyed
Vireo. How much difference a day and the sun angle can make! Today around
11:00am I saw the bird singing at Bass Ponds by the creek path not too far
from marker #4. It was moving clockwise today on its way toward marker #5.
Around 10am this morning walking counter-clockwise around the path at Bass
Ponds that goes from about marker #7 (by a beaver lodge) to below the farm
there, I, and three other folks, were led by an unfamiliar song that sounded
like CHICK-aREAR followed by a short, throaty trill. The bird had a
Sorry if this gets repeated. The message didn't get to my inbox:
I saw a male Black-throated Blue Warbler at 10:05 this morning near the end
of the bluff trail at Old Cedar Bridge. Past all the wooden walkways the
path runs into a small creek in an area just across the lake from the Black

of the bluff trail at Old Cedar Bridge. Past all the wooden walkways the
path runs into a small creek in an area just across the lake from the Black
Dog power plant. One can turn left there and walk a couple hundred feet
I heard my first Alder Flycatchers quite late this year at Old Cedar Bridge
on May 24th. It was as if someone turned on a switch and they were singing
all over the place. I heard the last ones late, I thought, on June 10th from
three places at the Black Dog fen area. Now, early this morning, I
This morning at Bass Ponds I saw five new (for the year, for me, in the
county) migrants:
Northern Waterthrush
Yellow Warbler
Swainson's Thrush
American Bittern
Marsh Wren
While watching the bittern I heard a Sora and Virginia Rail, but have yet to
see one. I've also heard Marsh Wrens and the
I saw a Blue-winged Warbler at Old Cedar Bridge. It was singing most of this
morning on the left side of the trail from the parking lot to the first
bench as you walk toward Bass Ponds. At Bass Ponds I heard, but did not see,
a singing vireo that was either a Blue-winged or Yellow-throated Vireo.
Re. previous post, sorry, I must have had the warbler in mind. I'm also a
person who still calls the Blue-headed a Solitary Vireo.
This morning at 9:25 I saw a Carolina Wren singing the long version of its
full-throated tea kettle type song several times thirty feet from the
bluff trail just beyond the third bridge from the parking lot at Old Cedar
Bridge. I reported hearing one in the same area last Friday (3/3), but
wasn't
This morning between 9:30 and 9:45 I heard a Carolina Wren singing and
calling from the bluff trail at Old Cedar Bridge. This was at and beyond the
third bridge (walkway?) from the parking lot if you count the newly
reconstructed bridge as number one. I spent some trying to see the bird
without
This morning (Wed.--sorry about the late post) at 10:45 I heard a singing
Carolina Wren near Old Cedar Bridge across the water from the first opening
along Hog Back Ridge Trail just east of the parking lot--the opening just
before the one with the bench. Later I was able to actually see the bird.
A migrant? seen singing this morning (10:42) along the Old Cedar Bridge
bluff trail just before you reach the first wood bridge.
Just before 10am this morning I saw a male Black-throated Blue Warbler on
the bluff trail west of the Old Cedar Bridge parking lot. The bird was seen
from the first short bridge after the two long bridges in with a group of
other warblers--about five Nashvilles and one Orange-crowned.
I saw a singing Connecticut Warbler just before you come to the first
(short) wooden walkway along the bluff trail at Old Cedar Bridge this
morning at 8:22 am. It took me only about 2 minutes to see the bird sing
once the song came to my attention. I've spent hours in the past trying to
see one.
