Hi All-- Most of the winter, various eBirders have reported an American Black Duck in and around Northfield, Rice Co. Having errands in Northfield, I finally got around the checking yesterday (3 February 2014). Among 350 Mallards in the small (75 yard) patch of open water in the Cannon River

So far, Snowy Owls have been reported to the MOU database in 41 of 87 Minnesota counties during the winter 2013-2014 season. That means that we still don't have records in 46 counties. So, if you're out and about and find a Snowy Owl - especially if it's in any of the counties listed below -

[mou-net] Fox Sparrows, Dakota County

I was fortunate to find 4 Fox Sparrows this afternoon at Miesville Ravine County Park. These birds were found along Orlando Ave. as it comes down into the Ravine and Dakota County Park. They were easy to pick out as they scratched in the plowed roadside. Next to the Juncos these were big sparrows.
