In the experimental file do the folowing changes:
l 574:
switch_pe+=80;
l 594:
switch_pe -=350;
it seems to work better like this.

I wouldn't have thought it was possible, but Chris' patches eek out
even more speed from LAME!
I'm now up to playing_time/encoding_time = .75 on my PII 266.
These improvements will be in 3.04. There are also a bunch of bug fixes
in the frame analyzer. So if you notice problems like the
