[mythtv-users] Monitor CD/DVD with Fedora?
Has anyone managed to get fedora to play nice with Myth's monitor CD/DVD functionality? I've got myth setup up to do that, specifically for DVD's to bring up the menu. No matter what I try it doesn't seem to work though. I've edited /etc/fstab so that my dvd-rom shows up as: /dev/hdc/media/cdrom ufs,iso9660 exec,ro,noauto,user 0 0 That seems to work so that HAL (fstab-sync) doesn't re-write /etc/fstab. Myth just ignores it though. If I use anything besides /dev/hdc (say /dev/dvd, a symlink to /dev/hdc) fstab-sync removes all dvd-rom related entries and adds it's own again. Is there some specific device or mount point I need to have in fstab for Myth? How do I work around HAL to do that? ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
Re: [mythtv-users] Video Card Suggestions Please
While this may seem like overkill for myth there is an AOpen GeForce 6600 card with 256MB of RAM on it. The big advantage of that much vram is that if you decide to repurpose that machine, it will be set for anything else. the link to the newegg page is: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814135183 It runs $105. The other advantage is that if certain video filters are written to take advantage of the memory on your video card, you will have the extra ram available. i'm not sure which ones do that yet, but it is apparently on the roadmap for some projects. Re: [mythtv-users] Video Card Suggestions Please
In any case the new machine will be a P4/3.2GHz on an Intel 945 series motherboard. Why? AMD64 is better in every way. You're crazy to buy Intel for anything other then their M series these days... Plus AMD chipsets/motherboards are better. Until Intel comes out with a decent competive product again It's really a no brainer. AMD64 3200 (or higher) and Nforce 4 based motherboard is a good combo for your price range. (1) Im going to assume the video on the motherboard is not going to be acceptable for MythTV. Onboard video is always junk... Intel boards in particular. It may or may not work with Linux/Myth but it's not worth the time and effort. (2) My previous experience is with AGP based boards (I have a GeforceFX 5200 on my other MythTV machine) but the 945 has PCIE. PCI-e x16 works fine with Linux. What card(s) should I be looking at with this interface? Nvidia only... The 6200 is the cheapest PCI-e x16 you can get without a fan (you don't want a fan if this is a frontend!) at ~$55. Any decent brand should work. My master backend (part time frontend) is also my primary network server ( mail,openvpn,samba,dhcp/dns,firewall,etc,etc too). I've got a 3200+ /w an Nforce4 board, 2GB of memory, 1TB in hardware RAID 5 (~730GB actual), and a PCI-e x16 Nvidia 6200. Doing commercial flagging and recording 4 shows at once (PVR500,2xPVR250 in mulitple systems all accessing the same NFS share) I rarely see above 50% CPU usage or 800MB of actual memory used. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

I lied - I've just dumped the mytheb channel page of 20990 lines and at 17 lines per channel (with headers etc) I get 1246 channels where I should only have about 30. These channels have been allocated incrementing callsigns, on video source 1 they start at 1000 and for source 2 they start at 2000 (which seems normal). I'm now up to 1797 and 2554 (which isn't). The xml data is from mr.geek and is updating existing channels OK, its just creating all these extra ones. Guess I'll have to ty running mythfilldatabase manually so I can post the messages it generates. I can then sed/awk the rubbish out of the xml file. Further investigation shows that it IS the xml file I'm downloading. Most of the extra channels are the ones I didn't bother to put the xmltv data in for since I don't subscribe to them, the other extra channels are due to an occation change in spelling - 'E' is sometimes 'E!' etc. Is there a simple way to delete all entries in the channel table that have a null channum field? It sounds like the frontends are not beefy enough to handle software encoding even for recording, so LiveTV using the cards in the frontend is probably out of the question as well. However, if you're willing to give up the ability to time-shift live TV, and can live without an EPG, then you could use the frontend tuner cards as simple frame-grabbers and watch TV using xawtv (or any other TV viewing program, like tvtime). To do this, Myth doesn't need to know anything about the cards, so you need to remove their configuration with mythtv-setup. Then, all you need is to re-configure the menu item for Watch TV to launch xawtv instead of using Myth; this is done by editing the XML file for the menu. The EXEC command is what you want. (Someone may tell you to use EXECTV, but that's only necessary if Myth is configured to use the card for recording as well.) There have been a number of ways proposed. My current thought of the best is to allow you to create storage groups. You can add directories to a storage group and list how much space in MB (or how much to leave free on that directories partition). When you record a TV show you can have it save it to the general storage group, or have it save it to a specific one. The difficulty in any mutliple directory approach is what happens when you have 5 GB free in this directory, 20GB free in another, and 500K in another. Do we split up video streams, do we move files between them, and so on. a 4 hour HD show that's 36GB can be tricky. If you had 6 drives and anywhere from 5GB to 20GB free, which do you store to? Re: [mythtv-users] PVR-350 sound loop into soundcard
Perfect thread to hijack. I have another sound-loop issue. I've got my PVR 350 connected to the TV through the scart-cable that came with the board. This cable also have a small jack that plugs right into the PC's soundcard (Mic in this case). The soundcard is then connected to some loudspeakers (not the TV). Now, all I get through the loudspeakers if Mic is unmuted are the sounds from channel 1 no matter if I'm watching live-TV, some recordings or do nothing at all. The sound feed to the TV through the scart-cable are correct. If I watch a recording or live-TV, no sound is fed to the soundcard/loudspeakers. But sound comes through the scart to the TV. If I watch som transcoded recording, the TV isn't fed any sound, but the soundcard/loudspeakers are. Now, how do I clean up this mess? According to manufacturers warranty's upon a SMART pre-fail warning you are allowed to, if the drive is still under warranty, get a replacement. IMHO, SMART is like the sound from a rifle - if you're in front of the bullet you'll never hear it. I've had three SMART-enabled drives fail on me. In every case, the email saying a drive is dying was just about the last thing written to the drive before it went R/O, and none of them lasted long enough to copy the contents off to another drive. Since then I've switched to RAID5 so I'll get the array is degraded message when there's actually time to do something about it. I've never had SMART not throw a flag early enough. Even when my powersupply was causing problems SMART knew something was wrong and is the only reason I was able to rescue one of the drives. I lost one because I kept running them not knowing what the problem was. I suggest paying the extra shipping cost to receive the new drive so you can copy your data over. Keep an eye on the drive. I'll usually put it into a ro mount and if gets really bad I unplug power to it until I get a new drive. The drives that failed on me were two Maxtors and a Western Digital. The Maxtors lasted long enough to be obsolete so I just chucked them. The WD was only about 9 months old. WD's RMA process allows you to give them a CC number and they'll ship out the replacement by courier at no charge. You then have 30 days to swap the drive and ship back the defective one (at your expense) or else they charge the new drive to your card. In my case, it was a 120Gb that failed and they sent me a 160Gb replacement. All the same, when I decided to switch to RAID5 I bought more Maxtor drives. If they last long enough to make an RMA pointless then I'll be happy. I would check your motherboard's manual since some slots will share an interrupt whatever you do. You can also assign specific slots a specific IRQ in the BIOS. Better to use the --prefix=DIR setting in configure before 'make'ing the compile. Either run ./configure --help or open it in an editor to see all of the available switches and their defaults. 'prefix' is usually set to /usr/local which means that the binaries will end up in /usr/local/bin and the libs in /usr/local/lib etc. Using --prefix=/usr will move everything 'up' one level. If you install a new version into /usr and the old is in /usr/local then which one gets called would depend upon the ordering of your $PATH variable. Given the nature of linux, I suspect however, that each version, if called directly would run quite happily because each would look for its own libraries in its own path (ie: the old one would always look in /usr/local/lib while the new one would only look to /usr/lib) This would be fine until they start looking at the same database... and possibly using different schemas. Unless you wish to live dangerously, it would be best practice to rpm -e the original version before 'make install' of the new *if they are going into different places. If the same, then the new will over-write the old. Geoff R. [mythtv-users] Problem with mythfilldatabase and UK listings
Hi all, I am having a nightmare of a time configuring XMLTV for UK listings, so I really hope you can help. Firstly, this is my box: MythTV 0.18.1-5 in Ubuntu Breezy x86 on AMD64 XMLTV 0.5.40-1ubuntu1 I have a WinTV DVB card in there, although there is no arial hooked up and I am switching it for a PVR-350 when it arrives on Monday. Use a stereo RCA to headphone (1/8, is that the size?) cable, and then you can control the volume level using the Line-In input level. That's what worked on my SB Live 5.1 card. I'd rather they spend their time writing code for Myth. That way, I'm pleasantly surprised when I see new functionality--as opposed to wondering why this vapor ware is never being completed. ;) Jesse, one thing you could try is looking at some of the newer distro releases. KnoppMyth R5A22 was recently released and includes MythTv from SVN. it is a fairly quick and easy install on newer hardware. if you're comfortable with tweaking Linux then i would say go ahead and install it on your production machine (do a little research first, and make backups ;) AFAICT, it's 0.18-fixes, which primarily only contains bug fixes and no new features. KnoppMyth experts, please feel free to correct me... but i would be hesitant to tell anyone that just 'uses' MythTv to upgrade their production system regardless of the distro being used. Right. Thank you, Jesse and Andrew for taking this approach. This is the right approach to take unless you're willing to invest considerable time in doing your homework both before /and/ after the upgrade. Anyone who decides to upgrade to SVN has the *responsibility* of keeping up with the -dev and -commits lists (which takes a good bit of time). Those who don't keep keep up with the lists/do their homework often cause a lot of developer time to be wasted.--especially now that Trac is in place. Very often, when something changes in SVN, a well-meaning user (wanting to help the project) who hasn't been keeping up with the changes will think he/she has identified a bug. So, instead of posting to the lists to verify that it's a bug, the user submits a ticket to Trac. Then a dev closes the ticket with a short message saying that it's invalid. Since the user hasn't been keeping up with the changes, he/she doesn't understand the short message, so the user reopens the ticket, forcing the developer to spend significantly more time writing up a longer, more detailed description of the changes that have been made (and that were described in the previous commits/messages to the dev list)--sometimes this keeps happening several times. All of this interaction has taken some of the time the developer could have been using to write more code and add more features. And, since it all occurred on the Trac server instead of the lists, other users were unable to contribute and lessen the burden on the devs. So, is it possible to make Trac refuse new tickets without a patch or a reference to a thread on the users or dev list? IMHO, that would be very beneficial for the devs. And, what's beneficial for the devs is beneficial for the users and their Myth boxes. ;) Mike ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

Get a range expander to rebroadcast your signal. Put it on the floor of the house between the backend and frontend. It wouldbe much cheaper to build a directional antenna to focus the transmissions in the right direction. Check out the wireless hardware links page at www.seattlewireless.net. Great discussions about antenna parameters and examples of how to build your own. To start with however, you should ensure that your existing antenna are oriented correctly. IIRC, the antennas which come with, for example, the Linksys router are intended to stand vertically so that they project omni-directionally *in a horizontal plane*. Maybe you will get a better signal just by putting both antenna horizontal. The cheapest upgrade is to built a parabolic reflector or corner reflector for the antenna on your wireless router. See the goodies at www.freeantennas.com and build your own with some cardboard or card stock and aluminum foil. The *only* critical dimension is getting the existing antenna in the correct place relative to the reflector. G. R. Re: [mythtv-users] Problem with mythfilldatabase and UK listings
The DVB card is not tuned in at all. So, this is what I do: 1. run mythtv-setup and clear my card and channel settings. In the video sources I use the United Kingdom (alternative) which uses tv_grab_uk_rt and I click Finish. At 50%, I flick to the terminal window and type 'all' to accept all channels. I then press esc to exit the setup program and run: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ mythfilldatabase It then gives me the following output: 2005-10-28 17:21:36.121 New DB connection, total: 1 2005-10-28 17:21:36.192 New DB connection, total: 2 - Start of XMLTV output - 2005-10-28 17:21:36.256 New DB connection, total: 3 All data is the copyright of the Radio Times website http://www.radiotimes.com and the use of this data is restricted to personal use only. I don't know why Jarod's guide suggests iso9660, but I'd guess he was suggesting that for a CD drive, not for a DVD drive used for both DVD's and CD's. Re: [mythtv-users] pass info for job queue status
This is not in C, but accessing the DB is no problem. The key then is how to find what job item I am. Looking at the jobqueue table it looks like we have the same chanid, start/end times used to identify the recorded program the job relates to. This should work. The field statustime; is this updated by the queue, or where I would stamp when I update the comment field. Maybe I should leave it alone, and only update the comment field. Looks pretty straight forward. Now. What tables to I need to modify in Mysql to empty things out? so i can start recording again? I just did recorded, but under upcoming recordings in mythtv, I still see T - Max Recordings. even though my media library says no recordings... First, backup your database before making any manual changes: http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-22.html#ss22.5 Do I need to explain why you may want to do this =)? The information about your recordings is in the recorded table. First, grab a list of the missing shows and episodes: $ mysql -u mythtv -pmythtv mythconverg mysql select title,subtitle from recorded where hostname='yourhost' order by title; Cut'n'paste this into a file that you can look at later. If you have slaves with local disks, you do not want to remove the entries for those recording that you still have. You can remove just the recordings for the host where the recordings are missing with: $ mysql -u mythtv -pmythtv mythconverg mysql delete from recorded where hostname=yourhost; If, however, you have just the one backend, you can: mysql truncate table recorded; mysql truncate table recordedmarkup; mysql truncate table recordedprogram; mysql truncate table recordedcredits; mysql truncate table recordedrating; [Don't bother with these other tables if you still have recordings on other hosts. It's to much trouble to pluck out the right stuff and a little cruft won't hurt you.] This will fix the too many recordings problem and clean up the Watch Recordings page. Next, if you want to try to re-record the things that were deleted, go to the Previously Recorded page and view it sorted by title. Look at the list of titles and subtitles you made earlier and find them on this page. For each one you find, press Enter and click Remove this episode from the list. I don't know what the consequences of having simultaneous RPM and CVS installs, but it sounds like the sort of thing that could turn ugly. Well thanks for all the advice. You've convinced me that I should delete the rpms, so it's off to start doing some serious backing-up!. [mythtv-users] Hardware Woes
I recently upgraded my motherboard and processor from a p4 1.6 to a p4 3.0 and asus p4r800-v deluxe. It seems that hdtv stutters more than it did on the 1.6. I was able to watch it on the 1.6 without stutter unless I fast forwarded it. Should I upgrade the kernel to an SNMP version? I used Jarods Guide to originally install mythtv. I am currently running 2.6.11-1.14_FC3, 512mb ram p4 3.0ghz,pchdtv3000,pvr250, fx5200, and 120gig hd. [mythtv-users] Jittery Audio/video
Hello List, I've gone through a hundred messages from list archives, looked at I can't remember how many how-tos, searched the Gentoo and EPIA forums and wikis, and tried everything I can think of, but I can't get LiveTV and recording playback to play normally. The Audio stutters, and the video jitters when it tries to sync with the audio. I tried turning on extra audio buffers, but no soap. When I use MythVideo to playback mpg videos I made earlier, they play just fine. If I drop out of MythTV and play the Myth recordings in Mplayer, they play beautifully too. Why the difference? Shouldn't the problem exist everywhere? A little background. Myth frontend and backend are on the same machine, a VIA EPIA M1, which provides the audio and video. TV is from a PVR-350. I am running Gentoo Linux V2.6.12-r10, with the Xorg drm modules. Mplayer has the XvMC patch. I run ivtv from fb. There are no errors I can find in dmesg, or the Xorg logs. Everything else in Mythtv looks and runs beautifully. Has anyone else with this hardware had and solved this problem? Can anyone help? -- Here is a sample mythfrontend log - 2005-10-27 10:42:39.604 prebuffer wait timed out.. 2005-10-27 10:42:39.604 waiting for prebuffer... 2005-10-27 10:42:39.617 _AddSamples bytes=4608, used=19457, free=492543, timecode=5377 2005-10-27 10:42:39.622 _AddSamples bytes=4608, used=24065, free=487935, timecode=5401 2005-10-27 10:42:39.624 write-15 53 QUERY_RECORDER 1[]:[]REQUEST_BLOCK_RI... 2005-10-27 10:42:39.635 Read(): reqd=128000, rcvd=128000, rept=128000, error=0 2005-10-27 10:42:39.671 _AddSamples bytes=4608, used=28673, free=483327, timecode=5425 2005-10-27 10:42:39.712 _AddSamples bytes=4608, used=33281, free=478719, timecode=5449 2005-10-27 10:42:39.739 prebuffer wait timed out.. 2005-10-27 10:42:39.739 waiting for prebuffer... 2005-10-27 10:42:39.762 _AddSamples bytes=4608, used=37889, free=474111, timecode=5473 2005-10-27 10:42:39.767 _AddSamples bytes=4608, used=42497, free=469503, timecode=5497 2005-10-27 10:42:39.812 _AddSamples bytes=4608, used=47105, free=464895, timecode=5521 2005-10-27 10:42:39.856 _AddSamples bytes=4608, used=51713, free=460287, timecode=5545 2005-10-27 10:42:39.861 _AddSamples bytes=4608, used=56321, free=455679, timecode=5569 2005-10-27 10:42:39.874 prebuffer wait timed out.. 2005-10-27 10:42:39.874 waiting for prebuffer... 2005-10-27 10:42:39.915 _AddSamples bytes=4608, used=60929, free=451071, timecode=5593 2005-10-27 10:42:39.968 write-15 53 QUERY_RECORDER 1[]:[]REQUEST_BLOCK_RI... 2005-10-27 10:42:39.970 _AddSamples bytes=4608, used=65537, free=446463, timecode=5617 2005-10-27 10:42:39.980 Read(): reqd=128000, rcvd=128000, rept=128000, error=0 2005-10-27 10:42:40.009 prebuffer wait timed out.. 2005-10-27 10:42:40.009 waiting for prebuffer... 2005-10-27 10:42:40.024 _AddSamples bytes=4608, used=70145, free=441855, timecode=5641 2005-10-27 10:42:40.030 _AddSamples bytes=4608, used=74753, free=437247, timecode=5665 2005-10-27 10:42:40.038 OutputAudioLoop: Play Event 2005-10-27 10:42:40.039 Broadcasting free space avail 2005-10-27 10:42:40.040 Broadcasting free space avail 2005-10-27 10:42:40.040 Broadcasting free space avail 2005-10-27 10:42:40.041 Broadcasting free space avail 2005-10-27 10:42:40.041 audio waiting for space on soundcard: have 256 need 4096 2005-10-27 10:42:40.048 audio waiting for space on soundcard: have 1536 need 4096 2005-10-27 10:42:40.055 audio waiting for space on soundcard: have 2880 need 4096 2005-10-27 10:42:40.062 Broadcasting free space avail 2005-10-27 10:42:40.062 audio waiting for space on soundcard: have 224 need 4096 2005-10-27 10:42:40.069 audio waiting for space on soundcard: have 1632 need 4096 2005-10-27 10:42:40.077 audio waiting for space on soundcard: have 3008 need 4096 2005-10-27 10:42:40.084 Broadcasting free space avail 2005-10-27 10:42:40.084 audio waiting for space on soundcard: have 352 need 4096 2005-10-27 10:42:40.091 audio waiting for space on soundcard: have 1600 need 4096 2005-10-27 10:42:40.098 audio waiting for space on soundcard: have 2944 need 4096 2005-10-27 10:42:40.105 Broadcasting free space avail This is what my modules look like: - Module Size Used by via37792 1 drm67704 2 via ivtv_fb39132 0 tda988712728 0 tuner 26760 0 ivtv 217236 3 ivtv_fb saa712712348 0 saa711514296 0 msp340025672 0 via_ircc 23316 0 via_agp 7648 1 agpgart29608 2 drm,via_agp snd_pcm_oss48128 0 snd_mixer_oss 17152 1 snd_pcm_oss snd_seq_oss32384 0

Re: [mythtv-users] Hardware Woes
The only obvious thing that comes to mind is to check that any hard drives that are involved in streaming are actually using dma. I.E. hdparm /dev/hda Beyond that, in no particular order... 1) Are you running a good video card driver? (Perhaps a binary driver from your hardware vendor?) 2) Is your kernel configured for preemption? Sometimes that can help, and occasionally, it can even hurt, but the second is mostly due to some other buggy driver. 3) There are options to use DRI(sp?) [Direct Rendering] and such for video cards. I've never been ambitious enough to get them working as I haven't had the need, but with hdtv you might have the need. I believe that also requires some kernel configuration. 4) Are program versions actually compiled with support for the P4? Things run a bit faster if programs use all the processors native instructions rather than say only those that would work on a generic 686. I tend to doubt this is the cause of your problem though. [mythtv-users] Window Managers - Success with ratpoison instead of kde
Hi all, I had been meaning to try this for ages, but was bored today so I thought I would risk WAF FAF I have a master backend/frontend running on FC3, I use my FC4 workstation as a frontend when the family insist on watching soap. ratpoison makes alot of sense as kde is such a beast. I also took the opportunity to change the way the frontend is spawned so that on the odd occasion it crashes, you don't need to get up off the lounge to control-alt-backspace the X I have gdm set to autologon after 5 seconds. The newest prebuilt rpm I could find was here: ftp://sunsite.auc.dk/projects/newrpms/www/htdocs/apt/redhat/en/i386/fc2/RPMS.newrpms/ratpoison-1.3.0-1.rhfc2.nr.i386.rpm this is a FC2 version that loaded on my FC3 without issue, and on my FC4 after installing compat-readline It is a super lean window manager that spawns in an insant. To get full screen xterm is as easy at typing Control-c Control-t c (that's three keystrokes) I would recommend it as it saves mucking around with disabling the kde sound server, modifying mouse focus etc.. Why waste memory on a window manager when it is not required On RedHat the switchdesk command creates .Xclients and .Xclients-default in your home directory to set for kde I created a .Xclients-ratpoison and called it from .Xclients , that will keep it safe from being overwritten with switchdesk Instead of having my startup commands in .kde/Autostart/myth-load.sh I have put them into the .Xclients script I also changed things around so that the window manager is spawned to the background and it is the presence of mythfrontend process that keeps the X session from dying. If the frontend exits, so does the X session My one line .Xclients file looks like this exec ./.Xclients-ratpoison My .Xclients-ratpoison looks like this #!/bin/bash /usr/bin/ratpoison # To get an xterm with Ratpoison, Control-c Control-t c # Load nVidia driver custom settings #nvidia-settings --load-config-only # Stop the Nvidia blue line problem xvattr -a XV_COLORKEY -v 66048 # Disable screensaver and blanking /usr/X11R6/bin/xset -dpms /usr/X11R6/bin/xset s off # Restore sound settings /usr/bin/amixer set Master,0 80%,80% unmute /usr/bin/amixer set PCM,0 80%,80% unmute /usr/bin/amixer set Line,0 80%,80% mute captur /usr/bin/amixer set Capture,0 80%,80% captur /usr/bin/aplay /usr/share/system-config-soundcard/sound-sample.wav # Make sure the DVD is umounted umount /media/cdrecorder # Launch myth frontend mythfrontend # We are here because mythfrontend crashed or was exited # After we drop out of here, X will terminate # We could stay in X and the window manager by changing exit to wait sleep 2 exit ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

I run mythtv perfect without any overhead from a windows manager... on x:tty7 (in my inittab) i have /home/mythtv/startup.sh which contains: /path/to/X sleep 8 /path/to/mythfrontend this has the added advantage, that if mythfrontend crashes (which it does from time to time) the script will exit, and inittab will recycle tty7 and start the script again, thus bringing the frontend right back up automagically. maybe not Linux Standards Base compliant, but works like a charm :) James On Saturday 29 October 2005 12:06 am, Support [ Ian Ward ] wrote: Hi all, I had been meaning to try this for ages, but was bored today so I thought I would risk WAF FAF I have a master backend/frontend running on FC3, I use my FC4 workstation as a frontend when the family insist on watching soap. ratpoison makes alot of sense as kde is such a beast. [mythtv-users] Front end memory usage
I am experimenting with a diskless setup based on Knoppmyth R5A16 After the frontend is done resizing things, memory usage of the mythfrontend process starts to increase from 18M (right after the resizing is done) to 107M of Resident memory (virtual is at 171M) Trying to run the weather plugin kills the frontend, as I only have 256M RAM and it runs out of memory. So, the question is, where is the frontend memory going? It seems that 107M of resident RAM just to display the main menu is quite excessive. Did I miss-configure my system? Re: [mythtv-users] Window Managers - Success with ratpoison instead of kde
I use a window manager on my MythTV machine (which is dedicated to MythTV) because external applications like xine won't get proper focus sometimes without a window manager. It's a pain to try to play a DVD in xine, and have it behind the MythTV UI. -- Joe --- James Grant [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I don't get why people even use a WM (for a dedicated mythtv box)...
