Has anyone managed to get fedora to play nice with Myth's monitor CD/DVD
functionality? I've got myth setup up to do that, specifically for DVD's to
bring
up the menu. No matter what I try it doesn't seem to work though. I've edited
/etc/fstab so that my dvd-rom shows up as:
/dev/hdc
While this may seem like overkill for myth there is an AOpen GeForce
6600 card with 256MB of RAM on it. The big advantage of that much vram
is that if you decide to repurpose that machine, it will be set for
anything else.

Im pretty sure the problem is your mixer.
Use alsamixer or kmixer to set your capture device to the line-in.

size?) cable, and then you can control the volume
level using the Line-In input level. That's what

workstation as a frontend when the family insist on watching soap.
ratpoison makes alot of sense as kde is such a beast.

I don't get why people even use a WM (for a dedicated mythtv box)... I run
mythtv perfect without any overhead from a windows manager...
on x:tty7 (in my inittab) i have /home/mythtv/startup.sh
which contains:
/path/to/X
sleep 8
/path/to/mythfrontend
this has the added advantage, that if

After the frontend is done resizing things, memory usage of the
mythfrontend process starts to increase from 18M (right after the
resizing is done) to 107M of Resident memory (virtual is at 171M)
Trying to run the weather plugin
I use a window manager on my MythTV machine (which is
dedicated to MythTV) because external applications
like xine won't get proper focus sometimes without a
window manager.
It's a pain to try to play a DVD in xine, and have it
behind the MythTV UI.
