1) We don't need to define MSVC to detect MSVC. MSVC already defines
_MSC_VER as the current major and minor version of the (MSVC) compiler.

but it fails. it is a read-only object right? is there some way to do this?
using the override function obviously doesn't help because it is only present
on versions 5+ of snmp agent..
