Lost in versioning

Hi Last week I thought the net-snmp is heading to a final release of 5.2.2 but now I see pre-release of 5.3. I'm quite lost in versioning - what will be the next version? Is 5.3 brand new branch and 5.2.2 just update - It doesn't seems so to me cos 5.2.2 changes many things in libs etc.
