[NetBehaviour] Who Saved the Web?

2016-06-22 Thread Maria Farràs
Dear Colleagues,

Today I am writing to you to send you an article we published explaining why
Everyone needs to understand that we have a civic duty to protect the Web and
make it a better place: WHO SAVED THE WEB? By Solana Larsen.

We are drowning in dystopian visions of the Internet with attacks of privacy,
free speech and personal security that were unthinkable only a decade ago.
Someday, we will look back and ask: who saved the Web? And we will remember
that it took a combination of enlightened educators, hackers and innovators,
global activists, and determined policy makers to protect one of the most
important and promising human creations of all time.

This is related to an activity we organize the 4-5th July: PRIVACY DILEMMAS AND
THE FUTURE OF THE INTERNET. CONFERENCE FOR TEACHERS
[http://www.cccb.org/en/activities/file/privacy-dilemmas-and-the-future-of-the-internet/224020]

[NetBehaviour] New Technologies to Face Up To Climate Change

2016-04-05 Thread Maria Farràs
Dear colleagues,

I dare to send you an article i think might be of your interest: New
Technologies to Face Up To Climate
Change<http://blogs.cccb.org/lab/en/article_les-noves-tecnologies-davant-el-canvi-climatic/>
 by Ferran Adell.

It seems naive to think that technology, on its own, can change the ethical
foundations of the market and industry and steer them towards a more
environmentally friendly system of commercial values. Nonetheless, we can still
argue that with good management and legal and political regulation, the
internet and digital culture may significantly reduce the depletion of the
natural ecosystem. But are we prepared to go beyond rhetoric and good
intentions, and take action in our daily lives?

This is the URL:

[NetBehaviour] The Keys of Bitcoin and Blockchain

2016-05-17 Thread Maria Farràs
Dear colleagues,

Today i am writing to you with an article by ALAN LAZALDE explaining the Keys
of Bitcoin and Blockchain:

Some people claim that Bitcoin is the most disruptive internet technology after
the internet itself. The secret lies in the network that underpins the Bitcoin
economy - the blockchain - which can transfer all kinds of digital assets as
well as virtual currency. In the case of Bitcoin, this removes the need for the
concept of a central bank that issues currency. In the case of other digital
assets, it allows the decentralisation of services that can validate votes and
issue personal identification credentials, educational qualifications, medical
certificates, and other "ownership certificates". In other words, the beginning
of the end of bureaucracy, at least in the monstrous form that we know it.

[NetBehaviour] Scott Smith on Future and Museums

2016-04-19 Thread Maria Farràs
Dear All,

We just published an interview to Scott Smith:

What do we mean by innovation? How should we address the challenge of climate
change? What does cultural innovation consist of? Is the term "disruption"
appropriate? What is the future of the internet? Utopia, dystopia, or both?
Coinciding with his visit to the CCCB and with the preparations for the
exhibition on Climate Change scheduled to take place in late 2017, we
interviewed researcher, technology consultant, and critical futurist Scott
Smith<http://www.changeist.com/bio/>.

[NetBehaviour] Ramon Llull and Network Thinking

2016-07-12 Thread Maria Farràs
Dear coleagues,

Tomorrow at CCCB we are opening the exhibition The Thinking Machine. Ramon
Llull and the ars combinatoria
(http://www.cccb.org/en/exhibitions/file/the-thinking-machine/223672) exploring
whether the philosopher should be seen as a forerunner of the new information
technologies.

To shed some light on the issue we published a post: Ramon Llull and Network
Thinking by anna Punsoda

The road that leads from Ramon Llull to Alan Turing is long, complicated and
replete with projections conditioned by the world view of our own times.
However, although not all Ramon Llull scholars see the philosopher as a
precursor of computer science, many of them do tend to agree in considering Ars
Magna-the work, finished in 1308, which Llull presented in several phases and
simplified versions-as a mainstay of combinatorial reasoning and network
thinking.

[NetBehaviour] The book to come

2017-01-31 Thread Maria Farràs
Dear Coleagues,

We published an article on the Future of Book and how Artificial intelligence,
big data, and virtual reality are set to change the book world over the next
ten years.

The book to come by Javier Celaya http://lab.cccb.org/en/the-book-to-come/

As innovations like driverless cars and trains, smart vacuum cleaners and smart
fridges, and exercise and dream tracking programs become part of our everyday
lives. Could we really expect books to remain unchanged? The artificial
intelligence and big data boom is likely to radically change the way we access
and consume all kinds of cultural content. In the midst of the current
uncertainty and change, we try our hand at forecasting and venture to predict
the future of the book.

We hope you like it!

[NetBehaviour] Move a text, break up the house

2016-10-18 Thread Maria Farràs
Dear all,

Today i write you to send you a text on Kenneth Goldsmith, related to his
presence at The influencers Festival: Move a text, break up the House

Does it still make sense to invoke literary originality in the internet era?
Kenneth Goldsmith spoke about this at the Festival Internacional du Livre de
Arte et du Film de Perpignan (FILAF) this summer. Alicia Kopf tells us about it
in his article on appropriationism, intertextual dialogue and literary practice
from a curatorial point of view in which there is room for textual emancipation
and shared inspiration. Her account ends with an excerpt from an unpublished
poem by Goldsmith. This week, Kenneth Goldsmith will be at the CCCB as a guest
of The Influencers festival.

Dear all,

(http://www.cccb.org/en/exhibitions/file/1000-m2-of-desire/223704 ):

>From the fetishisation of private space in pornographic films to the

[NetBehaviour] Timothy Morton: Ecology without Nature

2016-12-13 Thread Maria Farràs
Dear Coleagues,

We publish an interview to Timothy Morton: Ecology without Nature by Roc
Jiménez de Cisneros.

URL: http://lab.cccb.org/en/tim-morton-ecology-without-nature/

Is man still the measure of all things? The current environmental crisis
underscores the urgency of moving beyond the anthropocentric frame of reference
and understanding that we are not the ultimate object of the planet. In
defiance of the paternalism of certain environmental movements, "dark ecology"
defends irony and ugliness as means to raise awareness.

The article helps us giving context to both:

Dear colleagues,

Today we published an article that might be of your interest: Fake news:
sharing is caring (http://lab.cccb.org/en/fake-news-sharing-is-caring/) by
Sandra Álvaro on how Algorithmic filter bubbles on the Internet limit the
diversity of viewpoints we see and make it easier to spread fabricated
information. The US elections showcased post-truth politics. The impact of
false news on the results not only demonstrates the social influence of the
Internet, it also highlights the misinformation that exists there. The rise of
this phenomenon is also closely linked to the role of the social networks as a
point of access to the Internet. Face with this situation, the solutions lie in
diversifying the control of information, artificial intelligence, and digital
literacy.

2017-07-05 Thread Maria Farràs
Dear all,

Yesterday we published an article you might like: The Dark Web, between the
Myth and the Promise of Anonymity
(http://lab.cccb.org/en/the-dark-web-between-the-myth-and-the-promise-of-anonymity/)
written an illustrated by Ferran Esteve:

However little you've heard about the dark web, it's impossible to navigate
around it without preconceived ideas. The media relate it to drug trafficking,
terrorism and child pornography; meanwhile, activists and journalists defend it
as a tool for social change. Beyond the myths, navigating around the dark web
turns out to be much more prosaic than one would expect, and its political
potential resides in a practical aspect: recovering the right to anonymity in
the era of digital surveillance.
