When I first installed Red Hat 7.2, the installer asked me whether I
wanted X-Windows to start automatically every time it boots, and at
the time I said yes, because working with X-Windows seemed easier to
work with and get used to (I dual boot with Windows 98 on my other
hdd), however after a
Edit your /etc/inittab where the following line is: 'id:5:initdefault:'.
Change the 5 to a 3 to boot into the multi-user mode, no X-11.

hello everyone,
maybe someone could help me.
I installed Red Hat 7.3 and configured Xwindows (within the

the WEIRD thing)
When trying 640x480 res. (still within the installation) I could

I knew the answer to that, but what I can't figure out is how to stop
the automatic login to the default user and instead bring up the

Hello Mirek,
MV I was wondering how extensive is support for the Ati
video boards, because I have heard Linux systems such
as Debian (which I have) do not handle these kind of

My understanding is that for graphics modes the display

Well the only solution I have been able to find is to:
Use red hat 7.3 Xconfigurator to generate the XF86Config-4 file. Set up
everything according to your computer (memory, screen etc). Choose
generic laptop display. When you have the XF86Config-4 file, edit it and
change the driver=radeon
I have found support for Ati to be not up to my
expectations on all platforms.
My 2 cents worth

Hi,
Hi there
I just installed free bsd and i'm trying to get xfree up and going. I had
xfree 3.3.6 installed, however that didn't support my matrox g450 card.
Xfree release 4.2.0 says that it now supports g450 but when i install xfree
4.2.0 and then run
# xf86config
they do not show the matrox
Help! I cannot get this card to work
properly. I think it supposed to use the S3V server- but when the Xconfigurator
(4.10.7) runs it says it is using XF86_SVGA. The whole process through
Xconfigurator seems to go ok, but when the X starts, the display isn't right-
crappy pixels everywhere

on HP-UNIX) using the following command:
gcc -lX11 XSampleWindow.c
gcc complainted like this: /usr/lib/libdl.a
undefined reference 'atexit'
