Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] '85 NH 700, annoying plastic rattle from bikini/instrument area, front forks/Trac questions

2020-04-13 Thread Ric Holder
Milwaukee tools make a battery operated compressor that you can adjust and set
in one lb differences. I adapted the hose on mine to a air jack. ( comes with a
thread on style) Set the pressure, inflate the fork as it automaticly shuts off
at the set psi.

I wouldn’t replace the fork seals unless they are leaking. As for air pressure,
it is so low that it is hard to set. Get a tank and fill the tank just above
the pressure you need and do it that way. They should equalize to get you what
you need. Never even tried to set mine, but I’m pretty light weight.

Search here in the group search bar for the service manuals, and combine
that with youtube and you'll have all the knowledge you need.

Then you just have to go over the learning curve on your own!

Good Luck!

Hey, you can look into replacing the fork seals, and while you do the
seals, you can change out the fork oil and learn if the forks are correctly
installed (you can't assume that they are)

Good Luck!

[Nighthawk Lovers] '85 NH 700, annoying plastic rattle from bikini/instrument area, front forks/Trac questions

2020-04-12 Thread William M
Hello from a newbie,
i just bought a '85 NH 700 with almost 39K mi. on it.
the very first 2 things i'd like to address is:
1. plastic rattling sound that i think must be coming from the
fairing/inst. cluster area,
really annoying! anybody have any experience/recommendations for this?
2. the seller told me the front wheel/suspension/Trac was a bit
disconcerting
on turns/curves for him at first, but after he got used to it, he came
to like it more than an older honda 650
he owned. i also find it "disconcerting"; he had the Trac knob set at
4, i changed it to 2
(don't notice any difference); i have not checked the air pressure yet
on top of the forks...
so, my questions are: does it really matter which number setting the
Trac knob is on? ~ for a newbie,
and how about the same question for air psi in the forks?
Thank you for any thoughts/advice!
William
