IIRC, the new (ruby) texexec does not read texexec.ini. One
possibility is that $TEXMFLOCAL is not
-alone switch, is there a path to the
current directory from which you invoked
texexec --make --alone
Without the --alone switch the fmt file should go into \texmf-linux\web2c
or \texmf-linux\web2c\pdfetex, depending on your texexec.ini setup.

The most important thing is that pdftex and pdfetex are now the

Hi David,
Sounds likely this is the same TEXFONTMAPS problem again, where
the texmf.cnf is making pdfetex search in the wrong place for
its map files. We have had a number of reports on that.
Can someone on the mac that fixed this problem please write down
how to do that and put it here or on

dvipdfm/con
text/original-base.map): invalid entry for `fmvr8x': font file missing
The point seems to be that ConTeXt somehow runs in dvipdfm mode and
reads the wrong mapfiles. How do you call ConTeX
sources just returns mptopdf.pl texexec.pl and texutil.pl
With texmfstart --verbose texexec --passon='--interaction=nonstopmode'
-- verbose test, I get
using 'system' call: ruby
e:/isoimage/usr/local/context/tex/texmf-local/scripts/context/ruby/texexec.rb
--verbose --

After a bit of experimenting and reading the mfonts manual, I got the
following to include the type1 font for ccr10 (otherwise pdfetex was
including /var/cache/fonts/pk/ljfour/public/concrete/ccr10.720pk):
\definetypeface[ceul][rm][serif][concrete][default][encoding=default]
\definetypeface
still get the same error.

is one at texmf/web2c also. setuptex sets TEXMFCNF to
F:\tmp\mp>echo %TEXMFCNF%
E:\isoimage\usr\local\context\tex\texmf{-local,}/web2c
I changed that to
...\tex\texmf-local\web2c, but still get the same error.
Context can locate the files
F:\tmp\mp>texmfstart --locate original-emp

The problem of "cannot open font map file" is still there. I deleted
all existing context trees from my computer and downloaded the
mswincontext.zip (dt. 2006-05-17) from Pragma's website. When I run a
simple
\starttext Hello World \stoptext
file, I get

It looks like this is all caused by a path searching problem. Because
your pdfetex is also reading the font map files for dvipdfmx in favor
of the ones for pdftex itself.
You should go back trough the list, there have been some other posts
on the path
